The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Manufacturers have never had it so good.

"Must have the newest camera as it will improve my photography"

Marketing departments must love it.

As some of them are actually struggling whilst others have gone or as good as gone I doubt it's quite as easy as that :D

Ignoring the price for a second, 2 things put me off the X-H1. Firstly it doesn't have quite the classic form factor that the XT's have. It sort of looks like a cross between a DSLR and a Fuji. Screen looks nice enough but what I like about Fuji normally, is that a top screen isn't really needed 90% of the time. And secondly, it's a fair bit bigger than an X-T2 which is starting to negate one of the nice benefits of Fuji vs DSLR's.

Love the idea of IBIS though. So although, it's highly unlikely I'd buy an X-H1, I'm looking forward to seeing how the IBIS performs in the hope it might make its way into the X-T3.

IBIS seems to get quite a mixed reaction but when I had an EM5mk2, I absolutely loved it. Yes, many lenses already have OIS, but not fast primes. Something like the 16mm 1.4 will probably be quite usable hand held in near darkness. I found that great for shooting in a city at night where a tripod can draw too much attention and be a pain.

Plus we have the possibility of this being used for pixel shift or star tracking etc. Looking forward to seeing the reviews....

the thought of the 90mm f2 stabilised is very appealing to me.

This is what I thought. Seems like a lot of what attracted people to Fuji was having the exposure information available on the dials and not having to use the menus much beyond initial setup, that and the small form factor which this now doesn't have.

To me it feels like it wants to be a DSLR. Without wanting to get too conspiracy theory-esque about it, but perhaps it's intentional to lure people away from the DSLR market, some people prefer the bigger form factor and things like the top screen I've heard people saying they couldn't live without...

i think thats exactly the reason they have done this. now there is an option for those people who want fuji but more of a dslr feel. the x-t3 i imagine will steer closer to the traditional fuji look

I'm going for a play with one.
Initial impressions are that it's waaaay too big and waaaay too pricey.
Can't get past the feeling that it is designed for the video market.
It will take a lot to persuade me to buy one. I'm happy to wait and see what the X-T3 brings at the end of the year.

I briefly saw the angry photographer dude having a bit of a rant on youtube about IBIS on the X-H1, he was going on in his usual understated, self deprecating manner about not being able to have a heatsink on an ibis sensor. I didn't watch it all, but will do later. I wonder is there anything in it, considering 4K video is supposed to generate a lot of heat in X cameras.

The sub monitor on the top plate and the bigger size is definitely moving the X cameras into DSLR territory IMO

Am I right in thinking that ultimately there will be a separate lens range to go with IBIS? Supposedly present lenses, either with IS or not, do not give optimum performance with IBIS.
It could be a costly experience.

there was a lot of talk that it wasn't possible to do ibis on the current glass. apparently thats not true. all native glass will work, with or without IS

And will allegedly utilise the lens OIS first before engaging the IBIS. Sure I read they don't work together though so not sure how that switch from OIS to IBIS works apart from being bloody clever.

i know sony bodies with ibis work with the is on without issue

I tried out an 11mm extension tube for the first time today with the X-T2 and 18-55mm. I know I should have used a tripod and lower ISO but I was quite pleased with the result and looking forward to using it again in better conditions :)
