The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I have always been an advocate of the Capture Clip however after today I thought I’d share a word of caution

I was out on the beach today trying to get a long exposure when the unthinkable happened. Firstly although I had my tripod I had forgotten the head as i last used it with my monopod. So with a bit of quick thinking I removed my Capture Clip (v2) and screwed it the tripod thread to make a temporary quick release. All ok so far. However it all went down hill rapidly when I moved the tripod and my beloved A7Rii and fe85 came tumbling off and plummeted towards the rocky shore. I have to admit my heart stopped however at the last moment I managed to get my foot under neath it and it gently rolled off my foot onto the stones. No damage done (huge sigh of relief). However on inspection I’ve discovered that the catch that holds the plate onto the clip doesn’t spring into its locked position. Although it’s a great concept I think I will stick to a holster case from now on

That’s odd, are you sure it’s not a fault with yours specifically? I’ve got a clone version of the original capture clip (looks exactly the same but wasn’t the same price!) and the initial clip is sprung (you have to push the button on the clip to release the camera) and then there’s a thumb screw that stops the spring from releasing the button to secure the camera more permanently.

Sounds like the spring in yours has gone walkabout?

The spring is there however the clip sticks and doesn’t always return. The button takes quite a bit of effort to press too

as above, sounds like a problem with the spring. but its the thumb screw that locks it, as well as it you rotate the square release button it stops it being pressed in so its a double safety mech.
edit- is your in need of a clean, the button soundnt be at all stiff

Just spent an amazing few days in NYC with the a7RII. I've been 10 times and finally felt that this was the best balance of kit/quality after years of DSLRs, Micro 43s etc. Particuarly so as I had my 3 year old with me and all the extra weight/stuff that requires. Got 800 photos to work through but this jumped out at me...

I've just received my latest buy, an Oly Zuiko 35mm f2.8 and I'm very pleased :D

I've not seen one before and I was pleased that it's the same size as the 24 and 28mm f2.8's and 50mm f1.8 that I have. It's tiny and as far as I can gather it actually weighs nothing :D

It seems good from wide open, so I'm very happy but I think I still like my Rokkor MC 35mm f2.8 best :D

I'm waiting for my Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 now :D

Any A7s users here, using for non video stuff? was wondering how people are finding the auto focus of native sony lenses on it?

That looks like Llanddwyn Island :0) I haven't been there for a few years. Last time, it was getting dark as I walked back to the main beach and I nearly had a heart attack when one of the wild horses appeared out of nowhere!
It is indeed Llanddwyn Island, stunning place, I could have spent ages there but was restricted by the family

 First image of the new FE Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III RXD is out, going to probably be announced on February 22. :D

isn't that still a rumour? as in -it hasn't been confirmed its actually e-mount and not a dsrl lens?
if its the image i saw on instagram the flange distance didn't quite look big enough for e-mount. mind you, I've been wrong before. once.

If it is real, I hope Tamron massively undercut the Sony GM 24-70 and make a more realistically priced workhorse lens. Long term, Sony are never going to bring down their lens prices until their is realistic competition and a lens in this range will be widely used by Wedding photographers. Ok, Sony has 4mm on the wide end, but having previously used a 28-75 Tamron on a Nikon D750, I didn't really miss it for the weddings I shot.

2875 wtf. They already produce 2x 24-70 lenses. What a waste.

I have to say I'm a bit surprised not to see Tamron making an effort to make an FE mount version of the 24-70 G2 as it's meant to be excellent and would be a great rival to Sony's GM.

I've got a 24-105 on preorder but if this is priced right (and is good) I could be tempted.

Where do you have it on pre-order Chris, I had it on Amazon at £1062 and they increased it to £1200! I may now wait to see what the Tamron is and when it will be available.

Amazon as well, at the £1062 - thats the price you'll get it for (not the £1200)
