Wild Red Squirrel.

Taken with your old camera I assume.

This one was the Fuji, X-T10 and a 100-400 lens I was trialling. All part of my decision making to go FF or Fooj. I still have the Fooj, 7D is being swapped for a drone.

You made the right decision but I would have expected the Fuji to have less noise than appears in this image. However, you cannot always tell given the size restrictions on posting and viewing on a tablet.

I love every new word I can learn in your language.

No disrespect for the cute red but I read the word used
for all kinds of animal on this forum…

and no offence taken Archie!

Definately the right choice, no question in my mind about that, the mkiv with L on has blown me away. I love my Fooj but it is now a back up and walkabout camera. Regarding the noise, ISO 1600 and I lifted the clarity by 5 in LR, which can add grain too. Taken in very dull light and I'm not sure I'm saving files properly for upload here either as I've stopped hosting on Flickr. Work in progress on that front. (y)

Oopsy, clicked quote instead of edit, but you get the gist. since turning 50, I'm having far too many senior moments, anyway.....

(y) This would be much noisier off my 7D, even at lower ISO settings

I am coming towards the end of my 50's, senior moments only get worse!

I bought a used XPro1 two months ago and I find the low light performance very good but my intention was always to get something smaller and lighter than my DSLRs to hopefully take more people pictures.

I still use the 7Dii for wildlife and birds and a 5D for landscapes.

Would love a 5Div but cannot justify the cost.

What a beautiful photo.
Living in Kent I only get the grey critters. I'd love to get a photo like that.

Though it is a captive colony of Red Squirrels get yourself over to the British Wildlife Centre nr Lingfield in Surrey

IMO a nice place to go to and see British wildlife that you would not typically see :)

PS or for a longer trip (long weekend?) there is Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour.

Thank you Dave. I'm lucky to have them not too far away in the Galloway Forest, it makes for a great day (sometimes 2 or 3) out and Harry Ramsdens on the way home.

Going over old ones again and found a folder I'd actually forgotten about.

Taken in Spring, 2017. Where did that year (almost) go?

I love the Reds, they are so captivating and this one is very endearing pose with nice bokeh and overall "look".

I'd like to think we might make another Scottish trip in the next year or two, with the aim of seeing the Reds and fishing Eagle and/or Osprey???

Thank you. I fancied a trip today actually bit Wifey has to work so I'm on Daughter Duty. Maybe next week.

I wasn't too keen on the BG of this image myself but it'll do. ;)

I thought the oof pine tree branches gave the BG a painterly feel to it.........yes, a smoother less cluttered BG might have been nicer but the you have captured the environment which is appropriate.

As a side note, on Countryfile this evening they mentioned the growing Reds population on Anglesey at the NT property Plas Newydd and the local conservation groups work/efforts to re-introduce them onto the mainland......................already some in Snowdonia :)

Tempted to visit Brownsea Island this year. Are the reds general easy to find and does the tree cover allow in a reasonable amount of light?

A lovely capture of a Red and makes me even more exicited for our annual holiday to the Scottish highlands at Easter although a few suggestions above eg BWC and Brownsea are places we would like to visit year

Cheers Box, Archie and Adam. (y)

I think we'll see reds make a bit of a comeback, especially now there is some awareness about and control of greys. I think in 10 years or so, it will be a story similar to red kites. There are certainly a lot more about in the Galloway Forest, as well as further north.

I certainly hope so. In Berkshire we see red kites out of our windows everyday, still a lovely sight.

Cheers Rob mate, sorry, Stu mate. Damn, more seniorness. ;-)

One thing I regretted a little after I finished looking at the image in PS was not leaving a bit more to the left. The original will have it though so I will give it a go. I like the pose too but I really want one 'in flight' so to speak, I may well try this weeknd, we'll see how things pan out on the home front. I wish it had been 5D too but even the Fooj is better than the 7D. Full frame has blown me away, I should've done it years ago. I've learned to live with the background a little now, it retains some of the environment I suppose without it being too intrusive. I may do some buring or desaturation on it, just a squidge of both/either.

If you "want some", you're welcome to join me some day.

I certainly hope so. In Berkshire we see red kites out of our windows everyday, still a lovely sight.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of red kites in the Galloway Forest area. Also, Mid Wales, around the Rhayader area has the same, where it all started too, not a million miles from where I was born and bred. It's great to see red squirrels potentially making a similar come back. (y)
