As I was browsing through the image bank drive, I fell on
a couple of shot in a folder named "Crazy Shots!" and this
one was in there, from September 4, 2011 later afternoon…

This opened on my screen with the bottom half out of view. It struck me as very humorous when the rose came into view as I scrolled down and I could not help smiling.

It is a pity that the bottom layer is not also in focus.

Thanks, Terry… inspiring a smile is a great satisfaction! :)

That FG wall was in no way to get in focus… that was my
first idea as well since it was too far from the rose. My other
idea was to shoot from a higher position so to avoid it entire-
ly but there was nothing I could climb on; so I took it as is! :(

I did work on it…
  • I resized to canvas to a 3:4 and filled the blanks
  • retouched the bottom wall
  • tried it without the window.
What do you think?

I like both.
As it stands as a graphic image. The one without the window balances better.

However, that is why I darkend the bottom section, so as to create a better balance, and also create two distinct walls, between which the rose appears.
When the are the same tone it looks like one wall with a feature line.
This creates the problem of wondering where the roses is growing.

Yes, as graphic image… but the opened window adds
a human touch to this cityscape. I dig both too.

This is the ambiguous — maybe uncomfortable —
aspect of that presence.

Both work for me for different reasons. The blank wall makes it a more graphic image - almost an abstract with a rose at the bottom while the window adds context, telling us what the plane surfaces are.

Exactly and giving more sense to the perspective! :)

Love this. I think the tweaked foreground improves it, but I like the window left in so I know what I'm looking at. (as others have said, context! :) )

I like the window in the image. It adds to it for me. Also the foreground in focus.

With the lines, colours, window and the flowers, this is one of those photos I look at and think, wish I had taken that.
