The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I've forwarded the list of fw updates for a9 and surprisingly a few had mentioned some of the improvements to them already during the show.

They will forward it to the right channel so fingers crossed.

Cheers chap, I’m sure Sony are listening to the firmware requests, let’s see if the actually implement :)

Are the prices on the photoshow the same as on shops?....might take a drive up there tomorrow if it's worth it :)

Can’t get eye AF working with 85mm lens. Wheel button set. Af c on and I hold the wheel button not tracking eye

Lens are cheaper but camera are cheaper apart from a7iii being new out

Hi, has anyone here tried the 12-24 zoom, 100mm STF or the 90mm macro? These are pretty thin on the ground it would seem. I can find various reviews but I'm more interested in 'real' user reports from a non professional POV.

The A9 is going to prove expensive for memory cards.. for a 2 hour show I blitzed through in excess of 128gb..

In the future I might have numerous shows back to back for 8 hours.

The client is going to have a lot of great expressions to pick from though :)

... import takes an age too .. it's been importing one card for over an hour now.. I need to work out what the bottle neck is.

2 hours and you’ve filled up 128gb  that’s some going, lol.
The bottle neck could be your workstation / laptop USB port?

Any tips on setting up the Camera guys.. Is there a beginner guide any of you know that is good for Sony Cameras as I would though most of the same menu wise?

From the few mins of playing with it I am impress the sharpness of the images I just cant believe it..

When I was shooting a play rehearsal today, where I was allowed to move around the edges of the stage - I used the single point expand and track option - it was better than using face detection. I could point at a person, it would expand to cover them and the have the AF follow them everywhere...

Was shooting with 24-70 2.8 zoom.

@snerkler has not yet! @Tom Green is buying a D750. Not all jumped lol

TBH mate I just dont know what you didn't like..

At the show there was a bloke on his BMX bike spinning around etc and wow the A7iii didn't not fail at all... There was a lass doing some spinning around but not as fast as the bloke was on the bike and again did not fail.. This what sold it me I was impress... I then went over to the other area of the sony stand to try several lens on the A7iii to make my choice of lens.. Ok GM lens are nice but for me I dont earn from photography I dont need that sort of lens so i gave those a miss.. Maybe one day but I doubt it..

I got the 24-70 F4 lens.. OK some says it not good but I ask questions about it and was assured the latest version are free from problem and I tried one there and I was very happy with it performance so that was fine for me..

85mm 1.8 I got this as I felt it the right lens for Portraits and I like it just need to find how to set that damn button on it to a Eye AF function i can only find custom button setting on the camera but not for the lens.

55mm 1.8 I know this a lovely lens but decided against it for now... keep eye open for a bargain used one.

70-200 F4 I got this again I know it a sharp lens and it ample for me...

Good choices of lenses however I would have given the FE 24-70mm f4 as miss due to it being over-priced.
It’s still a good lens though. :)
