My friends just opened a local seaside gift shop. He's asked if I want to supply some prints, postcards etc ... Are all these things going to be cheaper printing myself or has anyone got a good supplier? Ive used dscolour labs for prints before but I do not see cards and postcards on the website.

The subject has come up a few times and is also of interest to me............planning & thinking for now.

The hurdle is that most greeting cards makers haveca minimum run of 500 off though a few will do a split i.e. mixed qty of face images.

A new one I only recently found has very low/no minimum though the cost per card at suchow numbers is high but cards do retail for decent money.

They are called The Dandy Arthouse based in Yorkshire.

I have yet to check them out but as you have a ready customer see what you think???

Edit ~ of the ones I saw made by the above none were photo (all were artworks ~ I was at a gallery showing) but their website shows examples including photos. The other thing I noted and I don't know if all card makers do the same, was that on the reverse of the card it includes their own branding. In the past (a few years back) I did get a small batch made by Photobox ( just to test quality and for personal gifts) and they charged a premium to produce without their own branding!). Now, my thought is that as virtually every card in the shops has the manufacturers branding....... don't 'sweat it' as possibly looks more professional over a handmade card???

Thank you for the reply I will check out their website.
It might be that this gives me the perfect excuse to purchase a printer and ink system :)

If you do decide to go the home-made route, as I do for limited numbers of lettercards, might I suggest www.theinkjetpapergirl.co.uk for media?

Searching for a local printers would be my first suggestion. They are normally pretty helpful and can be much cheaper than you think. Some will try and push for high minimum orders, but just try emailing a few and see who seems to be most helpful.
If that fails then www.think-ink.co.uk is a good company. Have used them in the past for Greetings Cards & Postcards where I haven't been able to find competative prices locally. Very good quality and good prices (no minimum orders either). [They are due a "Sale" too, so check the prices after Tuesday as I think there will be a 20% or 30% discount coming then...if history repeats]

I print some 7 x 5 greetings cards for a local shop. In all fairness though, with the price of ink for my printer having gone up, I'm unsure if it's still really worth the effort.

I bought a used Epson R2000 printer, I chose that printer on recommendadtion from a friend and at the time the price of ink was quite reasonable. I think a set of cartridges was around £30, but now it's about £48.

I buy these 7 x 5 cards, which come with envelopes. http://www.paperspectrum.co.uk/7x5-blank-photo-glossy-240gsm-inkjet-greeting-card-4342-p.asp

I also buy these clear resealable bags. http://www.paperspectrum.co.uk/clear-resealable-greeting-card-bags-2780-p.asp
