The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I think they hype is a combination of what the body can do at its price point :D I gave in resisting Sony GAS.
Mine is due next week :D hahahahaha
Sorry I wasn’t denying the hype, I bet it’s a mega all rounder (y)

Part ex your a9. Get 2.
The thought did cross my mind but going to hold onto it for now..... still like the silent shutter and zero black out. :)
What I like is that Sony has kept the ergonomics and buttons same across the range.... great for muscle memory.

Only other problem is you'll lose big time judging by used a9 prices.

You should spend the money on hiring a photographer who uses A9 :p
That way someone gets a job and you get pictures for spending all that money

And the nicer viewfinder with better refresh rate (y)

Yes a long with other features, however you have to ask yourself if those features are worth the extra money over the Sony A7 III.
I don't think the Sony A9 is over-priced against its rivals Nikon D5 & Canon 1DX Mark III, however when you compare it to Sony's own bodies it seems a harder choice.
I think its great Sony is pushing out these great bodies..... can only get better going forwards :)

Ignoring the obvious jokes, are you planning on getting back into shooting events/weddings so need 2 bodies again?

When you compare it to the other Sony models it does seem expensive, however I have no idea on the cost to manufacture a sensor and processor that can give such fast readout times, how much it costs to manufacture zero blackout etc, better build/weather sealing etc etc. I'm sure those things aren't cheap.

It's like the A7Riii vs the A7iii, on the face of it the A7Riii seems expensive, but again I've no idea how much more it costs to build a sensor with nearly twice the MP, the cost of the better EVF and viewfinder, again better build/weather sealing. Maybe when you start taking into account all the little things then the price starts to make a bit more sense? On saying that, the grey prices of the A9 and A7riii make A LOT more sense ;)

:agree:

They have cannibalised the A9 and given Canikon a spanking :bat:

Don't forget the A9 was the first to have the joystick and better battery life

And I think theyve done the right thing. Imagine what the a9ii will do. May even walk out the cabinet itself and take pics for @Riz_Guru

Yeah, so do I, they have chucked it all into a very affordable body, they must know Canikon are bringing something to the party soon.

Waiting for delivery of my a7iii and lens today...it's going to be a loooong day :(

In the meantime, what SD cards are you guys using?
On my Nikon I was using a Sandisk Extreme Pro SDXC I 64gb so I guesss I will need to get a UHS-II.

Hold your horses. Look at images from the Commonwealth games where you can see all the cameras. How many Sony’s do you see? Look at the images of Ant leaving court yesterday, loads of cameras to be seen in all the images. No Sony.

I do think Sony are producing amazing stuff, and I would love to own another Sony. But they are not yet a top player in professional photography. At least in those two major pro segments.

Reading this forum you’d think no other cameras existed ;). I do think they will get there though.

... and not a single Hasselblad either.. so Hasselblad can't be pro cameras.

Yeah, rumours of a Canon 5D Mark 5 in 2022, with 63 autofocus points, 31.6MP and DIGIC 6+++ Image processing :p

And still it will probably will outsell it's competitors from Nikon and Sony

Trouble is the high MP does really slow the A7R3 down compared to the A73. If I got on with Sony I would choose the A73 over the A7R3. But thats just what I have concluded from testing the A7R3 alongside my D750 so just assuming would get the same sort of outcome from the A73.

slow down in what sense?

Buffer, image review, general low light AF focus. Just found the experiance slow and frustrating!
Its a trait of the A7R series, the A7R II was the same however you have to remember its having to shift through a lot more data due to the file sizes :)

Yep very true! A73 is probably a much better allrounder if you can get one! My mate has one on pre-order from Amazon which said 11th April release - now its says 2 months lol!
