Hi People

I have been asked to submit a image of 300dpi , any idea what image size this would be , I sent a file 640x480 and this was regected

Thanks

You haven't really given enough info, 640 x 480 @ 300dpi equals a print of 2.13 inches by 1.6.

What exactly have you been asked for?

DPI is a measure of resolution (dots per inch), it's not a measure of image size. I presume you've been asked for 300dpi for printing purposes? If so, what physical size do you intend to print, A4, A3, A2 etc.? If you know what the physical dimensions are, in inches, cms or whatever, then given 300dpi you can work out how many pixels high / wide the image needs to be at that resolution.

A photo of my birth certificate , can be in 2 half's as it quite wide

This is due to the submitted image not meeting the eligibility/quality requirements.

All scans/photos must be in full colour, JPEG/PDF Format and a minimum of 300dpi.

PPI (pixels per inch) please and not DPI (dots per inch is a printing term)

If you are scanning then simply set the scanning resolution to 300ppi, if you are photographing the certificate then do not resize the pixel dimensions simply resample to 300ppi.

(ppi and dpi through incorrect use of the latter have wrongly become interchangeable)

OK thanks , looks like I will need a trip to a print shop and get it scanned at 300dpi colour

Thanks chaps :)

Sent a photo , no good they rejected it

OK. You need to try and understand what they want here because they're not being clear which is why you're failing. It's not you.

If you first assume dpi=ppi in their eyes (which is technically wrong)

You are technically supplying a 300ppi image. It's just that as Danny says in the first reply, it will only print to a 2x1" size.

If they are printing the image to A4, you need to supply an image that's (8"x11" x 300) = 3300 x 2400 pixels. But if they're printing to A1, you need to supply (23"x33" x 300) = 6900 x 9900 - which will almost certainly mean upsizing it in software or retaking and stitching.

You're not being daft here - they're just not being clear.

Whatever size (in inches) they're printing to, you want to make sure your image size (in pixels) is 300x that number.

Surely, as you know the size of the original (it's your birth certificate...) then you know what size it needs to be. I don't know exactly, but it's a bit bigger than A4.
Produce an image that will print at 300dpi at exactly that size.

Sorted now had the doc scanned and sent , see what happens this time
