Other half and a bump with someone else two weeks ago now. Took loads of photos of the damage, bumps and scrapes to the side panels and exchanged contact details. All Well and good, but we still havnt been given quotations for repairs yet.

I've sent a couple of messages asking for her to get them done and keep being told she will do it soon. But I just want it done and cleared up now, ironically the other halfs insurqnce is up for renewal in a couple of weeks.

The other driver did mention at the time she would be happy not to go through insurance claims which rang a few bells.

But what can I do to speed things along. Is there a legal cut off point to where the time to claim runs out? Her car wasn't particularly new, not the tidiest looking car (the bits that wernt hit anyway) I did a vehicle check on it which came back clean. But I'm worried she will try and claim for everything wrong with it now.

You haven't mentioned fault. Can we assume that "she" and "her" in the above refers to the other driver, not the other half?

Since your other half will have to declare they've had an accident at renewal time whether the repairs go through insurance or not, I can't see why this hasn't been reported to your other half's insurers already.

The fault was my other halfs.

I've never had an accident so not sure what the process is. We were just waiting for quotes as if it was just a couple hundred quid we would pay it and be done with it.

I would run the other persons plate through DVLA checker first to see if it is taxed, moted and insured

Issues with not going through insurance:

- third party could take cash and then make a claim against insurance
- third party could demand more cash
- if insurance finds out, they'll ask why not declared (even if not claiming through insurance) and this could affect premiums/void policy
- if third party claims at a later date, it will hike up renewal premium

There could be lots of things going on with third party - they may have had previous accidents and not wished to raise their premiums or affect their no claims bonus. Or they might be uninsured (as above) and worried about their own situation.

You could consider issuing an ultimatum eg if we don't hear from you by xyz date, we will consider the matter closed, just to speed things along.

I would be letting my insurance company deal with it ....

I have to agree, to many chances of getting ripped off etc.

Do you have protected no claims it seems to be free with most policies nowadays

Protect NCB just means the discount is preserved. You can still get a hike in premiums the following year.

yeas but offset against paying for the damage caused to the other vehicle?

When I was renewing my car insurance in January the woman said I'd made a claim 2 years previously. I denied this strenuously, then she said it was only for a windscreen repair (not replacement) and wouldn't affect my NCB, but it was still a claim that I should be telling her about. If they can be that picky for a free windscreen repair, they'll come down a lot harder on your other half if she covers up an accident that is her fault. If it comes out at a later date when there is a more serious accident involved, you might end up uncovered.

3 Years IIRC, Looked up the same after my accident in November, it was February before I heard anything from anybody about it in the form of a letter from the other side, my own insurance (at the time) haven't uttered a peep on the subject. I'm now insured elsewhere and haven't heard anything from anyone ever since.

Call your insurance.

I mean, you have to anyway so you may as well let them do what you pay them for.

Your other half needs to call her insurance company, its what they are there for. Never understood the point in not doing so.
If you don't any issues down the line you'll have brought on yourselves.

I'd suggest you advise your insurance ASAP, it's a condition of insurance that they are advised of any incident that could lead to a claim at the earliest possible opportunity, getting your insurance policy cancelled for breaching the terms of they ever catch you for trying to cover up a claim will cause problems with getting insurance for the rest of that policyholder's life. (Check any insurance application, the question is "have you ever had an insurance policy cancelled").

i thought the question was " have you ever been refused insurance " a cancelled policy could be for a number of reasons ie you no longer own the vehicle as an example
A policy is also cancelled as a result of a vehicle being written off and the claim settled.

I think it also says " Have you ever had an insurance policy cancelled" not "have you cancelled an insurance policy"

Big difference! :)

just had a quick look and the question is

Have you or any additional drivers, ever had an insurance policy declined, cancelled, voided or had special terms imposed?

looks like they cover all the bases with that
