A few shots from Le Mans 24hr 2018 - it was another great trip overall, if not the most exciting of racing this year.

I've been shooting a lot more film of late, so am totally out of practice with this sort of thing - had tickets for a different stand this year (usually grandstand over the pits) and the fences seemed to always be in the way around the track, so didn't find myself in many good spots this year. I am sure I have said this to myself when I have used a crop body, but even more so this time - I need a longer lens for future events!!

All shot on a Canon 5D (classic) and Tamron 70-300mm VC USD.

Great set. Always loved the 5dc output.

Thanks, I've not had my 5Dc that long but I really like it's simplicity and agree that the colours/tones it produces are great!!

I'm now considering picking up a 1D3 as well to use for events like these, better AF but still with that old Canon output, and better high ISO :)

I thought the same, bought a 1ds2, was not happy. To heavy and af wasn't much better unless using the few outer points... Sold it.... Got another 5dc.

Up until the 5Dc that I bought last year, I had always had crop bodies (300D, 20D then 40D) - when I started to use the 5D I decided I would use that as my main DSLR and keep the 40D for motorsport/action.

As it wasn't really being used and I was concentrating on EF lenses for my 5D I decided to see how the 5D got on with action. I had assumed the 40D had better AF, but reading around, many people suggested that the 5D's centre point with assist on was more accurate/faster - coupled with better high ISO capability I decided to give it a whirl.

I'd say I found them fairly equal in terms of tracking AF, but I prefer the output from the 5D and it looked better at 3200 iso.

However, I still had a lot of misses (mostly my fault I'm sure) and did still wish for either a faster lens or better high ISO performance at night, which made me think 'why keep the 40D, maybe I should trade it against a 1D3'. I'll admit I'm not very well practiced with AI servo, with my 300D and 20D I just used to pre-focus and got good results!!

I'd keep the 5Dc, no doubt, would just use the 1D3 for action, better high ISO and the benefit of a slight crop for when you need the extra length!

I still need to purchase something like a 100-400 or Bigma though!!
