I have waited patiently for teh scaffold to come down from Lindisfarne Castle. I went for a visit in April and fell in love. This morning looked promising and there was a very decent sunrise. I found it a tricky place to shoot as the beach and rocks are difficult to simplify. Might have been easier with more tide in. Fired down to Jigsaw Rocks after that and really enjoyed shooting the waves. First time I have been there but will return when there is some light

Fab, especially no. 1. The lead in and the area to the right of it I no. 2 isn't gelling for me.

I like the refuge too. Wouldn't ever want to need to use it!

I like no 1 too. The light on the wall is fabulous; the castle seems very dark and draws my eye before I want to go there - could it be a tad brighter?

It could be brightened but there wasn't any direct light falling on it. The raw file is basically the sky exposed correctly, some light on the fence and wall and everything else black. It will be better conditions for this shot in a few weeks where the castle will get a wee bit light and the sun will be further out of frame. It's the composition I liked best so will be the one I focus on next time round. I tend to use a scatter gun approach when I first visit venues and refine that on later visits

I agree with you about the lead in on 2. IT was taken just as dawn broke so I couldn't really see anything. I was determined to get something though as I was up at 3.30am and the first hour nothing much happened light wise

I would have been pleased with myself if I had taken any of these but No 1 is the winner in my opinion, However I think you have also captured the refuge really well, it is easy to make a naff picture of this.

Nice set
I love the tones in the foreground of 2

1 and 2, just print them big and be very happy.

The golden light is nice in number 1 but I think it’s a bit too tightly framed and I really don’t like the vapour trail, hate the things! I prefer the composition of 2, it has a good lead in with the path, more breathing room and a better sky. Nice soft pre dawn light too. 3 is decent, not that keen on 4, I think the composition could have been a bit more considered, a crop from the top would improve it I think - 2:3 ratio portraits rarely work for me, 5:7 or 4:5 have a better balance but that’s personal preference.

I really like them too but they only made themselves known in camera as it was pretty much pitch black when this was taken.

I have had the same thing but at dusk

Really like the first, the light hitting the fence as a wavy diagonal lead in line works a treat.
