What is your favourite Star Wars film?

2 things; firstly, my favourite is The Empire Strikes Back. Secondly, Colin is the most un-Jedi name.

I’ve honestly never understood why a number of children’s films prove endlessly fascinating to middle aged men

Possibly because as a middle aged man the Empire Strikes Back is my first memory of going to the cinema.

The original and Empire, I couldn't be bothered with the modern era ones, they're a bit pants, it's like they're just throwing back stories together for the sake of new movies. I had all the figurines, had X-wing, Millennium Falcon and the AT walker as a kid. But the magic died for me sometime during the 90's, by the time the 'prequels' came about I had long lost any interest. Seeing people get dramatically excited about the new ones has me scratching me noggin', but I don't begrudge them it.

The original for me, an all time classic. Empire is still excellent and Jedi pretty good. I don't class those ones in the 90s as Star Wars, they were a travesty! Recent ones have been good too.

Has to be the original, remember all the hype before it was released here.
Queued up to see it, but didn't get in first time, got in second time straight after work at the ABC, Shaftesbury Avenue.

Empire is my fave. Like every true fan the 3 prequel films were completely dismissed as tat but Rogue One was damn good.

And women, and people in their teens, twenties and thirties, judging by cinema audiences when I've been to see the films as they are released. And the reason is because they are good. Sounds like you have lost your sense of wonder, which makes me sad for you.

I can't pick a favourite between the first two, though I have really enjoyed all of the recent ones.

I would say Star Wars: A New Hope, I would have been around 8 when I went to the cinema with my mum.

You needn't feel sad as I haven’t lost my 'sense of wonder' at alll.

As a middle aged man myself, my first memory of going to the cinema was to see Disney's Snow White and the seven dwarves. The witch frightened me I recall.

There's only one "Star Wars" - the original and best!

Surely no one actually thinks that Return of the Jedi is a good film?
Me actually, I thought return of the Jedi a pretty damn good film. But, after saying that, I might not be the best judge. The final fight scene in the Phantom Menace with the three Jedi, is pretty awe inspiring, the choreography is balletic and beautifully operatic, especially the climax where Obi Wan defeats Darth Maul. Sends shivers down my spine just thinking about it. Shame you have to sit through 2 hours of crap before you get to it. Regarding the more recent ones, although I've enjoyed them, I find Kylo Ren's character pretty week he doesn't give off any sense of menace at all.

I can't argue with that Steve (y)

I thought Kylo Ren was great until he took his mask off and out popped a spoilt floppy haired Etonian.

Episode IV by a long way.I actually missed Empire when it was in the cinema and ended up seeing Return of the Jedi before eventually watching Empire on VHS. I actually didn't mind the prequels (although Vader's "Nooooo!!!" almost ruined them) or the sequels but they are what they are and can't be compared to the originals

I know, he just looks a right wuss, what Rey see's in him I never know

Saw the first three in one sitting, midnight start at the Odeon, Leicester Square.
Few of us went, seemed like a good idea at the time, must have been young ladies somewhere in the mix

We saw Star Wars when it came out in Hong Kong back in the 70s. It was fun, but we've never felt any desire to watch the rest of them.

I disagree - Etonians can be quite menacing. KR is more like a kid with mental health problems who smuggled his dad's gun into school, but can't work out whether to shoot the teachers, his mates or just hold up the tuck shop.

Favourite film was the first (IV) but I prefer I-III over the latest reboot, which I dislike from the heart of my bottom.

While I'm more of a Trekker, I thought The Empire Strikes Back is the best of the Star Wars saga. But the ending bit at The Return Of The Jedi (where The Master try to kill Luke before Darth had a change of heart) is also the other brilliant thing.
