The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

For what it’s worth, and this isn’t a dig at Canon but I’ve also have the Canon 24L mk2 and I’ve had it for like 5+ years and I’ve never really liked it that much. It always felt that it got the job done rather than I love it.

I've been thinking of selling some of mine but when they're gone they're gone and I'll probably never rebuy them and for what they'd get on the used market I might as well keep them for the odd occasion that I want the look they give.

If the new Canon and Nikon mirrorless cameras cause legacy lens prices to rise I might change my mind but at the moment even if I only use them a couple of times a year they're maybe worth keeping.

Yeah, I get where you are coming from. I sold the FD28 & FD50's because I have those in Yashica ML & personally, I prefer the Yashica look. I used the FD85 for quite a while before I picked up an AF 85mm. Same as film bodies - I haven't developed a film on over a year..... Why did I need 3 film bodies hanging around? Stupid really.

I think I'm going to sell the Zony FE35/2.8 now though - I hardly use that. I'm going to pick up the CV40/1.2 when available. And, I might pick up a Samyang 35/2.8 just incase I need AF.

The e mount Voigtlander 40mm f1.2?

I have that one but I think I've only used it once or twice since I got the Voigtlander 35mm f1.4. I can only see myself selling the Sony 35mm f2.8 if they bring out a compact and good 35mm f1.8.

Thanks but the lens is tiny. Thinking about it, does the IBS work with these adapted lenses?
I like to be at least 1/focal length.135mm is something I don't use often, just checked a shot I like and it's at 1/160.

Just played with a a7iii in Jessop and it was pretty awesome. The tracking was awesome, nailing shots of people walking past the shop 100%. Was using the 55 1.8.

Surprised they had stock :)

Moving over? Heard good things about the 55mm!

Yep, the E mount 40mm f/1.2 ;) I have the old M mount 40/1.4 (it was one of the first lenses I bought for the A7 back in 2014/15)

I'm torn between the character & look of the f/1.4 vs the more corrected/IQ/exif/auto magnification of the E f/1.2.......

I can't knock the little FE35/2.8 as such, I just find the images a bit too clinical/clean/etc I don't get excited by them if that makes any sense.....

The 40mm is IMO much more of a modern lens and I'd say it's good wide open and excellent across the frame stopped down just a bit. I'm sure you now that the 35mm f1.4 isn't quite the top class modern design but I do think it's sharp enough from wide open across most of the frame and excellent across most of the frame, all except the very corners, when stopped down. Those corners are always a bit lacking when pixel peeping but I don't think you'll notice anything to complain about in a whole image. Bokeh at f1.4-2 or so can be a bit funky.

Just in case you haven't seen them there are reviews of both lenses on this site...

You'll know that they're bringing out an e mount 50mm f1.1 or f1.2 soon, I can't remember which. I might be tempted.

Note that the Voigtlander 35mm f1.4, the latest e mount one, does auto magnify and provide exif. It doesn't have the click/declick ring that the 40mm f1.2 has though.

On Canon, I shot 50mm for years on FF!! I bought the FE55 in my early Sony days but just didn't gel with it!! Awesome lens really, small, light, super sharp..... I just didn't get on with the focal length I guess mainly. Strange really but that's how it was.

So yeah, I much prefer the 40mm which makes the Voigtlander 50mm of very little interest really.

Saying that, I just took an epic shot with the Canon 24L lol
But then if you had used the 24 G master you would of dropped the mic and changed the game ;)

But on a more serious note what was it that made you change your pre order from the sigma to the g master, debating the sigma but no where near the budget for the g master

Quick one for the guys using Sony & Godox have you had any issues using EFCS?

Yes, I get a lot of misfires, even if I turn it off it still happens, it really is super annoying!
I have everything running the latest firmwares and it still happens. It is worst with the Xpro transmitter than with the X1.

It also happens with the flash mounted on the camera, in both my a7iii and a9 cameras.

Do you think it has gotten worse on the A7III since the firmware update?

First wedding with the A7 IIIs yesterday. Bloody loved it, they didn't skip a beat all day. The D750 was no slouch, but I've never felt so confident shooting a wedding than with these things, knowing you've got the shot before you press the shutter button is fantastic and the AF performed even better than I expected

Surprised I didn't even need to change batteries, despite taking over 3000 shots between the two bodies

If you don't use the evf much you can easily get through a wedding without changing batteries. If you use the evf a lot you will maybe need to change just before the first dance.

Hardly touched the EVF, so that's probably why

If you meant the update that was released a few days ago, I have not updated it yet. I always give a few days in case people report problems

First go with the A7III on native glass as hired the 70-200.

Big learning curve over both the Canon and Fuji cameras i have used with a few things i love and a few things i hate.

Really need to get my hands on an A9 for a play as although i love the dynamic range of this one the A/F struggles still with bikes and the slight lag on the EVF in use and turning on is a pain.

Still trying to work out if its worth selling up all the Canon gear for a move over as although i am stopping covering BSB i will still attend a few meetings to take images but love the weight saving the new 400 f2.8 would give over my 300 and 500 primes and pair of 1DX MKII's.

I have had an a7iii for a few moths and I know also have an a9 that I got a couple of weeks ago I have to say the a9's autofocus and speed is way above that of the a7iii.
Last week I was photographing a birthday part in a pretty dark club, a7iii really struggled at focusing no matter what area I was using, on the ohter hand the a9 had no problems whatsoever.

i ahve also done some unscientific test, basically with my daughters and our dog, the a9 nails the focus every single time, whilst the a7iii it does miss it.
Overall the a9 is a more enjoyable camera to use, way faster and snappier

Great photos by the wa!

I have had the A9 since launched and its an amazing camera. Focuses faster than my a7r3 and very snappy too overall

I had a look and they looked clean, they look very fragile and I'm not too keen in touching them. But as I menationed, it happens in both my a7iii and a9.
I know there are people out there having this very same problem, Godox need to improve with Sony I think....or Sony with Godox :)

Interesting as most people say they perform pretty much the same. Besides the 20fps.

Posts like these make it so hard for people like me trying to choose between the A7 III & A9 :D

Yea I've heard some say it misfires but not everyone has that issue. I've never had a misfire on my ad200 or ad600 yet

I'm one of the unlucky ones :)
At an event last week it failed to fire on camera maaany times, in my sudio, with triggers, also fails.I'm very tempted on giving up on Godox as much as Iike the overall system but I just can;t afford to miss a key moment because of a misfire

Something not right. If it was a firmware issue etc it would effect all of us. How far are u from from the strobe when you fire a shot?

Not what I found, most people actually owning both cameras had the A9 performance down as better.

Most of what I read have compared them directly and say there not a lot in it at all. I was undecided but thought the saving was to huge to ignore and the A9 value dropping massively made me even less keen to buy one.

I have tried at different distances, also have te trigger setup to 0-30.
But it also happens on camera flash, in both a9 and a7...very annoying.

Not my experience, to my eyes the difference is there and very noticeable.

EDIT also, was undecided but thought the saving was to huge to ignore and the A9 value dropping massively made me even less keen to buy one. From 4500k to 2500 used in hardly any time is terrible.
