Am I the only one that doesn't "get" these reality TV programmes?

I too can't find anything interesting in the reality shows, though I think they should have a different name. From what I have heard and read about them they are far removed from most people's reality. The need to get the contestants to do more odd things indicates, I think, that there is nothing worth watching.

I do watch Life Below Zero which is closer to reality, though there is some managing of events to make it more interesting.

This comment reminded me of something I heard yesterday morning. There was part of an old Raymond Blanc cookery programme where he was going to roast some meat. The voice over then explained what 'roasting' meant!

I caught the first part of one of those a few weekends ago, about poaching.
I certainly know a couple of people who wouldn't know the cookery definition of that, nor how to do it, let alone correctly. :)

Here is a list of what are supposed to be reality TV shows. It seems to include many different shows, including the Eurovision Song Contest, but not University Challenge or Mastermind. Masterchef doesn't seem to appear in the "reality" box, despite it having a competition/elimination theme, and also a celebrity version.
I suppose that the "reality" shows which I steer clear of are - Big Brother, Love Island, I'm a Celebrity, Made in Cheslsea, The Only Way Is Essex and the Apprentice etc.

Quite ironic that most of these shows have nothing whatsoever to do with "reality"
Well at least not mine and mighty glad about that, do people actually live the way these shows depict it?

I quite like The Apprentice. They dredge up the very worst, most egotistical and toadying individuals capitalist society can produce, then degrade them by making them do tasks like picking up dog dirt from Country Estates or hanging around shopping centres dressed as hotdogs. That said I don't think I've ever managed to watch a whole episode.

The worst of these must be where grotesque men and women with probable mental, alcohol and drug issues are baited and goaded by a presenter/ringmaster
This inevitably leads to verbal and physical abuse which the audience made up of similar specimens actively encourages

Saw one of these freak shows when I was off sick from work, disgusting spectacle and entertainment at its lowest form.

I "fell over" that late one night and did watch a few, As I was fascinated by how people survived in those temperatures,
but then I Googled it to find out what happened to Chip, there was some mention of "prison".
I became quite disheartened with what I found.

They are all worth a lot of money, from "other interests" That guy that lives by the lake on his own, Glenn, is a real entrapenuer!
and spends half the year with his family in civilisation..
That was the end of that for me!

I was a bit surprised too when I found out their wealth. Sue who lives the farthest north seeme to be very isolated. Chip and his family obviously live in a 'town' but I'd like to know how far the others are from relative civilisation.

I know the one you mean, it is the worst by far, and started in 2005 - probably the last time I saw a snippet from it. It is described as a "tabloid talk show", which is misrepresentation at the least, because all I remember were people shouting, fighting and swearing.

Sue seems to be pretty isolated TBH, but then she runs a hunting camp, so not totally isolated, and gets deliveries by plane.
Mind you she does seem to have lost the plot at times ;)

I don't think the rest are actually as remote as *they* make out, but its not exactly a short drive to Tesco's though :D

I think you're being far too harsh to Countdown.
