The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I wasn't ever interested in the 6D2, was the rrp higher at launch? The £1549 based on rrp of £1728 at WEX isn't that much of a drop? Although I see on camera price buster it was £1300 on Amazon at one point?!

i think it dropped at £2K and can now be bought grey for less than a grand.

Nothing compared to the price drop of the Sony A9

Which arguably was overpriced when launched!!! (It was never going sell in volume at £4.5K) But Sony got it right with A7III, putting the cat among the pigeons, causing Fuji to re-evaluate where their pricing was heading, making Panasonic/Olympus M43 high end cameras look silly (I know that now the OMD1ii is £500 less than launch), and throwing a challenge to Canon/Nikon

Regarding Panamoz pricematch :

"Thanks for your email. Sorry, we're unable to come close to their price, as that's far below our cost. The best price we can offer is 1880 GBP, all inclusive. It's in stock and delivery takes 4-6 business days."

I bought 2 A7III’s from Panamoz just over a month ago, seperate transactions and they price matched efinity both times. A mate of mine bought one too and they price matched for him too. They went out of stock for a week or so after that, maybe they have had to change supplier and their cost price has went up. They are a better option than efinity anyway probably worth paying the extra for the 3 years warranty vs the 1 year from efinity.

But when you compare the prices with the Nikon D5 and Canon 1DX Mark II it was actually cheaper.... I think the Sony A7 III's price point was the deal-breaker........ I have no regrets though and would still take the Sony A9 over the A7 III if I had to pick again :)

It didn't have the native glass or pro support to compete with them at the point of release.

surely leicas are better for the display cabinet?

The bodies will soon be out of the cabinet, its an investment vehicle for lenses (which if you keep long enough will rise in price, unlike bodies which really are starting to become disposable, and its not just Sony, look at Fuji's X-T2 £1399 -> £600 second user in two years, X-T1 did a similar price drop.

Fair point, I didn't even think about the re-sale values when I bought my camera kit.... tried out the Sony A9, a bit of drooling and it was bought! :D lol

I don't think there's anything wrong with the R if you look at it as the 6D replacement but accordingly the price seems too high for what it is. It leaves me wondering what Canon is going to do, if this is the mark up for the 6D I'd hate to see what the 5D replacement is going to come in at.

My point entirely with Canon. They are still pitching their bodies way over the market price, as if they are leading the way still. I switched as a result when the 5DIV which was priced at £3500 against the D750, at the time, at £2250. And they clearly haven't progressed since. Their native lenses look a bit more interesting for the R, which is where Nikon seem to have not found the mark. Like @JJ, the Z series looks ok but the lens lineup are along way away yet. Though the 58 0.95 does look interesting, but isn't an absolute must have FL.

Nikon and Canon went in different directions, like they always do, Nikon pushes their bodies at good value, Canon lenses. Within 2-3 years it'll be worth looking into these new cameras as a NATIVE system, at the moment enjoy Sony and dont expect them to sit around and do nothing. They have a massive budget and won't lose the ground they have gained.

Rumours suggest that the A7s3 and the A7000 has been put back into the drawing board to further impove it/listen to what users wants.

Good decision i reckon.

i predict mid next year we will see these two camera's drop.

I do wonder if there will be a A9 mk2 drop before the olympics? i think its not needed as such but to drop a 500 f4 and 600 f4 instead

i think they are all probably racing to be the major brand for 2020 olympics in Tokyo on their home ground. Sony clearly expressed wanting to be #1 by 2020.

I think there is will be A9m2 by then and also some nice long fast lenses.

that would be an expensive accident.

guess it might depend if they give you a really receipt as well as the ebay receipt, think they might treat the ebay receipt badly

They don't seem to care where it came from any more.

MPB are not the company they where though. While every business needs to turn a profit they offer a lot less now for most things than other companies. They used to be pretty reasonable.

I got some stuff quoted for recently to trade a few lenses and bodies and MPB on every single item offered at least 20% less than the other companies who I asked for a quote.

Have also seen several people online recently complain about long turnaround times from sending their equipment in to getting paid and others complaining about MPB lowering the estimate once they received the equipment.

Someone told me recently that they purchased a camera body from them and decided after a month that the change in system wasn't for them so contacted MPB to sell it back to them. When he bought the camera it was described as excellent, he took less than 100 photos with it and the camera was spotless when he tried to arrange to sell it back to them. They offered him £500 less than when he bought it and said the condition was no longer excellent just good. He wasn't a happy bunny. They did eventually agree to change it too excellent again but there was still a very large difference in cost.

I also seen recently on here that they where trying to mislead people in their terms and conditions about distance selling regulations.

Asked them about trading in the brand new and more or less open box A7MKIII i have after 1000 shots as i wanted to trade it for an A9 and they offered £1300 for it,laughed and then asked them to price up my 300mm f2.8 IS L MKII against an A9 and 70-200 f2.8 G master lens lens but once they received it they knocked the price so paid for them to return it.

Wont be using them again.

That's a joke for an A7iii, they'd list that at 1700 probably more. I remember the days they wouldn't even touch e mount.

Going to shoot some hockey with the A9 tomorrow and Sunday - long days 10:30 to 17:00 and 9:30 to 15:00

Should I shoot JPG, set the white balance, fix the ISO - probably 100-400 for outdoors and 70-200 for indoors, but i'll take both and play it by ear..

AF set up?

Roger that :) what do you have your AF sticky on? recently I put it on STUCK.. as in don't be fooled by other subjects, do I want it on loose AF so that it switches to 'best' option all the time?
I had it on balance and then on stick. I think on stick is better. Shoot compressed raw. Make sure your lenses are up to date as if it's not. Those lenses won't focus when zooming in or out (a old bug)
