Morning all ...I looked in last night, first time in ages to see how everyone is getting on, it’s sad to see the 52 has dwindled and of course im feeling a bit guilty for dropping out. I’m a bit like @Nostromo a few pages back, I just seem to have lost my creativity somewhere :( apart from the odd photo with my phone my camera hasn’t been out for months.

I know in the early days when there’s a flurry of new people the ‘post your photos here’ thread does get very full and it can be daunting to know which ones to comment on, not wanting to leave anyone out. I think that puts a lot of new starters off. One idea mentioned some time back was to keep the ‘post your photos here’ thread to just the current weeks topic, members posting catch up photos can put them on their own thread where they can be commented on, but it would keep the weeks topic current. If someone posts a six weeks catch up the thread somehow loses its focus, and for me it’s seeing everyone’s response to the weekly topic that helps to make it an actual challenge and keeps it fun....but that’s just my thoughts to throw into the mix.

Well done to all who have kept going ...it’s such a good feeling to actually complete the year, so keep at it for these last few weeks.

:jaffa: for @Cobra .....it ain’t easy keeping a thread running smoothly :)

I see what you are saying, Another idea rather than post the images twice how about a thread where you just post your links ( still no comments)]
ie say "Susie week one" or Susie "what ever theme" and hyper link that back?

Thanks :)

Thursday Thursday :banana::runaway::banana::woot::banana:

What's going on with the like button, you get a second page now asking if you really want to like a post? Have I altered a setting accidentally or is a new forum feature?

And I cannot find my smileys!

Has anyone else got this, or is it me being a Luddite?

Ignore me I was being a Luddite! Disabled Java in my browser!

Yeah I know, I've been slowed down by the poxy weather!
Its a Filthy day out there!

Oooh a mucky one :D

Ah ha. 'tis Thursday.
Thinks 'bugger, I'm dropping behind' :(
Not that far behind Tim, and only a few weeks to go thankfully.:)

Its an easy one this week, Mark (ed) my words ;)

Oh yes and the final OPTIONAL re-shoot (ever)

Fab theme - and I knew right away looking at my job list for this weekend what mine would be.

Bit bemused by the lack of comments here since Thursday (Mea Culpa) - this thing is defo on the declain. Sad :(

It is quiet around here. I've been offline for the last few days due to feeling like death warmed up, not helped by having a blocked storm drain divert most of its contents through our garden for the last four days while we had incessant rain  A friend suggested we advertise the muddy waterfall as a new tourist attraction. Oh, how we laughed!

Weather permitting I'll get my remaining images tomorrow, and in the meantime I'll have a trawl of the active threads. Hope everyone is doing OK - shall we sing a song or something...? :exit:

Kumbaya kumbaya :);)

Here's a question - does anyone find that they have phases where they process images mainly in mono and others where it's mainly colour? I noticed a few weeks ago when I posted a B&W image in my 52 that it was the first for 5-6 months and I wondered if there was any reason. I concluded it was just because none of the subjects were crying out for mono treatment, rather than my mood being colourful or otherwise.

Do any of you have a preference for colour over B&W or do you just decide on an image by image basis?

I go through stages where I shoot only for black and white or at least a particular form of processing. I normally have an image in mind when I shoot the picture ie, mono, wet plate, etc. Got no interest in colour at all at the moment.

Thinking about it, I don't think I've done much black and white at all this year, in the 52 or just generally.

HELLO I`M STILL HERE JUST SETTING THE NEW SILVER laptop up :D

I've just skimmed through this thread a little, so apologies if this has been suggested already. Building on @susiejb's comment re catch ups... and I was a serial offender in the catch ups in the 2017 challenge... would it be an idea to have a new picture thread for each week, and say only keep them as a sticky at the top for 4 weeks? Then all the photos on one theme are together, and people can go hunting for older themes if they want as they drop down the forum.

I hope you and the drain are feeling better Andrea?

That's not a bad idea TBH its sort of a compromise between something else that was also suggested and the current idea.
I'll need to speak to Marcel about it, as ultimately having 52 image heavy threads my well cause server problems as we are in the process of an "Up grade"

Why not have the normal main thread and a catch up thread, say if you are over three weeks you post in the catch up thread.

I might be wrong, but I get the impression that a few people don't like wading through "older" images to get to the current ones, by spreading it over 2 threads,
if this is the case, I think it would make matters worse TBH.

No, because they will have no need to go to the catch up thread if "wading through" is so onus to them. They can simply go to the main thread and see only the up to date photographs.

Hmm yes something to consider :marcel:

They could be appended to one thread after a set time, but then some people might not catch up within the set time... all gets too complicated!! Back to plan A :D

OR... current week and older and each week the current one gets appended to the older big one. If you're catching up you have to post in the old one. Still complicated...

 If you divide the image threads into two separate 'current week' and 'catch up weeks' then some folks may just comment on the current week images and don't visit the catchup thread then those who are just 1 or 2 weeks behind may not even get any comments at all.

I agree Stan, I think it best to leave it to just one thread for the images.

This would be my concern too. I know some people prefer to only comment on the current week's theme and that's their choice, but it could be discouraging, especially for new joiners, for their images to be easily ignored or overlooked. At least if they're all in the one thread they can be seen and then it's the viewers' choice whether to visit and comment.

I'm good now, thanks :) The flooding looks set to continue every time it rains heavily as the department concerned are dragging their collective feet. There are at least five homes affected though, and we're gettin' a band together :bat::bat: The conditions have provided a couple of useful images for themes though...
