Lowepro Flipside 400 AW II - Black £40.26

.... Not so! That's what I only use a monopod for. Hence a high quality Gitzo with even more expensive Really Right Stuff two-way head.

If I plan to use anything heavy I Always have my Benro and Gitzo tripods both with Gimbal heads on thanks.

So you are planning on getting that monopod and putting a 500mm F4 on it ?
I quite clearly said I dont think any of us are planning on putting a 500mm F4 on it.
I am happy to be corrected if any of the people on this thread have ordered one of the monopods with that intention.
But in all honesty I would assume the intention is to use it with a smaller setup.

.... Why would you need a monopod for a smaller and lighterweight rig? I have had all sorts of monopods and sold them to upgrade to my Gitzo GM4562.

No, I bought my Lowepro Flipside 400AW II in camo from Wex and didn't take up their offer of a free monopod because I already have an excellent Gitzo GM4562 carbon + RRS two-way head which can easily support my 500mm + 1DX-2 + Extender.

I paid £119 for the Lowepro because I wanted camo to differentiate it from my other Lowepro black bags and cos I like the look.

I've received a email to say my free mono pod will be sent within five days

I suppose maybe I am a bit more money conscious than you.
Or simply dont have the ability to spare £80 more because i prefer a different colour.
To be fair to you it must be nice to be in a situation where you can just do that and look down on people like me who can't afford to do that and do your best to pick apart anything we find and do.

.... I also have a Gitzo Series 3 tripod and Gitzo Fluid Gimbal Head for occasions when I am in a settled 'stake-out' position but a Gitzo Traveller GT2545T tripod with Flexline Pro double-ballhead for walkabout missions. It's Horse-for-Courses and depends what the target species are.

Sorry, but having owned them I think that low-end monopods are a waste of time. But each to their own :)

.... Yes, I am both privileged and lucky to be able to mostly afford what I want but I most sincerely apologise if I have given you the impression that I look down on you and pick apart what you find and do. My intention is only to share what I believe is more economical in the long term - Buy cheap buy twice or even thrice etc.

My apologies,
Robin

It's ok if it does not arrive tomorrow I shall write a strongly worded letter to Manfrotto demanding better service with my free gift from buying a ridiculously well reduced price bag.
And explain to them how i feel and that they should give me something else for free so as not to cause me any more offence.

I've just bought a new befree aluminium travel tripod from manfrotto, shall I be cheeky enough to ask for another monopod :)

Got mine. Such a bargain that I actually told my wife about it*.

* But promised to sell loads of other bags.

Have you looked through their list of offers?

They were offering a free back pack with some of the BeFree tripods - and free head with some of the 055 and 190 tripods.

Amazon did me a 3 way xpro head and 4 legged 190 tripod for c £220 - the price has gone up.

Manfrotto 190X Aluminium 4... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00ICFIS0E?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Most importantly it has the 6kg payload so using longer lens in a bit of wind isn’t a thing.

Yes I did have a scan through there offers but nothing caught my eye. I needed a simple tripod to replace my redsnapper one that has gained a few faults and it was a little on the heavy side for lugging round.

I wished I had seen this before, that would have been ideal. I plumped for the befree one as attached below, it weighs in a 1.5kg and can hold 8kg supposedly so it should do me just fine with a d750 and a 70-200 on the end.Screenshot_20181214-162515_Samsung Internet.jpg

Looks good - mine is the D810 with the 2.8 70-200 and mine with the 6kg pay load takes it with consumerate ease. Looks a nice tripod.

I've just tried doing another claim against the tripod, it looks as though it is only for the flipside bag as they are the only options in the drop down menus.

Prices go a bit crazy every so often.

There was a deal at Wex on the 290 back in October at £120 for basic CF version legs

I ordered a 055 CF 3 section that was on offer at £188.30. It took a few weeks to arrive because of stock availability - I'm now waiting for the free XPRO head offer to be fulfilled.

I was in two minds about the 055 vs the 190 - to my mind the 190 has always been a bit of a goldilocks tripod - just big enough - not too big - just right. But I already have a smaller CF tripod - and wanted something lighter to replace my main tripod - I grabbed the 055.
