Now that my daughter is no longer a baby I am in the process of re-kindling my love for photography and have taken the first step and bought a Nikon D7000 body.

I am now looking at advice on what lens to get, this will be my only lens for a while as money is still tight, my budget is £150 (£200 at a push)

I'm thinking either a Sigma 17-50 f2.8, Sigma 18-50 f2.8 or a Tamron 17-50 f2.8.......

Any advice?

I have the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 VC and it's a very good lens but reports are that it suffers from sample differences so whether you'd get a sharp lens could be open to chance.

If I was buying again i'd get the Sigma 17-50 as I've read it's a better lens.

I have a D7200 and the lens I use the most is a Sign 17-50. It's an outstanding lens.

Well Dan we have the very same set up and i will go with what you say the Sigma 17-50 is "outstanding" (y) (must say i have no experience of the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 VC)

I used to use the Tamron 17-50 2.8 Non-VC, it was a lovely little lens that only got sold when I swapped to FX bodies.

If it didn’t have to be a zoom, Nikon’s brilliant little 35mm 1.8 is a good performer and should come in under budget even new.

I have a tamron 17-50 here that has fungus you can have cheap. The fungus osnti visible.
