Yes
Does anyone have experience buying a Mac via the apple student store?

Our son is off to uni in Sept and will most likely want/need a macbook pro (graphic design).
Apple don't seem to publish the discounted price so it's a little frustrating to decide which spec to get without knowing the price.

Cheers, that helps to take a look at the range and select something within budget, don't think he'll need the latest with the touch panel thing. More interested in the performance so the previous model would probably be fine.

Download UNiDAYS and see if you can use your sons college log in, that will take you to the prices, alternatively, call Apple, they will happily tell you

I may try that, I thought I'd read somewhere on the apple education site that they needed the student university ID in order to register, which he obviously hasn't got yet.

I'll check if he can see anything on unidays

You need a university email address for unidays to work, might as well wait until he has that before diving in, use the time to shop around

That's what I understood, we're trying to shop around but not knowing the discount that Apple themselves offer is a little frustrating!

My unidays account says it's 10%, reducing a base spec 13" macbook pro from £1249 to £1125.40

When I bought a MacBook with a university of a few years ago the left discount was on the applecare support, I think it was around an 80% discount so well with getting.

Good to know, all well worth it.

For all three of my lads, what they thought they needed and would use changed significantly from before they started their courses to a few weeks in. My advice is, as tempting as it is to send them off 'fully prepared', don't. Let them settle in first and then get what they need. In my experience it's always less than first thought (and sometimes dramatically different!)

This is good advice, we don't intend to rush in too quickly.
He has an unconditional offer for his first choice uni so he knows where he's going and while he was doing the interview we were chatting to the department head so have asked what IT he would most likely need, the answer was macbook pro but not necessarily the latest model.
