Best settings for videoing runners please with a D500. In the past, with my D7200, I've used 24 frames per second and a shutter speed of 1/50th.

General rule of thumb for video is, shutter should be double the frame rate, 24/25 FPS second is generally the uk mainstream, faster frame rate slows the action.

It technically shouldn’t be camera specific, more a general rule.

Manual focus? Focus on a set position and then … with runners, would the auto focus keep zooming in and out to focus on the moving objects?

Not to sure with moving, heard the D500 focus for video is poor, I would go with manual and set position, not sure it would pan around. But I have tried with anything moving

I had the D500 Stephen and generally found it poor for taking video, I was shooting aircraft though which may have had a part to play, also any very slight noise from the lens motor or camera body motor seems to be picked up and amplified, very hard to remove if you want the audio from the clips intact, an off body mic would do the trick, I got so frustrated with the D500 I sold it and bought a dedicated broadcast cam for what I do at airfields and have eliminated all problems.

I waited a couple of years to let the price come down on the D500. Shoot runners 95% of the time and it's okay for that. Tend to come back with TOO many images from a race. Going to use my D7200 for a couple of events to see if there is any difference in quality. Might have been better buying a new D7200 as a back-up for my old one. Think I've nearly worn it out.

You may not notice to much in quality, but the D500 ace is it’s AF speed and how ridiculously accurate it is, also speed it shoots, you prob, as me end up with far more in focus pics, maybe use continues low or go in settings and turn it down to 3-4 FPS ? (Assuming your shooting in continues?)
