Formula 1 (and other categories) 2019

Niki Lauda has died. Sad news.
Very sad indeed - a true legend and was probably the fist of the modern style professional driver. A fantastic race driver and brilliant at developing a car.
The one thing we can be thankful for is he lived a long time after being given his last rights and the Motorsport community benefitted from him being around.
An irreplaceable personality.

Anything looks better than the halo! It looks...ok. I'm still not comfortable with single seaters being converted into closed cars. There must be a more elegant solution than slapping a halo or massive screen on an existing single seater design

Not sure how well a tear off that size would work - firstly, the sheer size will make tearing it off difficult (might need to be done PDQ if a splort [technical term!!!] of oil/water/insect lands on it on a straight) and even harder at any speed, then disposal so it can't get sucked into a duct (radiator, air intake, brake cooling etc.) needs to be thought of. As ugly as the halo is, it's a better less bad solution IMO.

Further (barely believeable) information re. McLaren's Indy 500 debacle:

"Among the myriad problems that afflicted them was the fallout from a decision early in the programme to build their own steering wheel. These house electronic read-outs and several controls for the car, and most Indycar teams buy them in from British company Cosworth.

When McLaren realised they had run out of time to do their own before starting testing, they ordered one from Cosworth, but when it arrived it did not have any gear-change paddles. When McLaren asked why, they were told they had not ordered them."
What debacle? What's the original story?

Good points.

More messy work from Ferrari. Wouldn't suprise if a useless sacking of someone high up happens again....seems to be their only plan these days.
Good news is should see some boom or bust driving from Leclerc! Might actually make it an interesting race (for him).

Until SV gets within a lap and he (Leclerc) has to wait for him to catch up...

Hamilton looking good again, Ferrari looking more like clowns than ever.

I’m far more excited about the Indy 500 than the Monaco GP.

I must admit though, I’m a little bit worried about it this year though. We have some very fast rookies this year, and this will be their first super speedway race in an IndyCar with 32 others around them.

What a shocker from LeClerc, over ambitious overtake attempt and then shredding his car in a bit of a temper tantrum.

He didn't have much choice really overtake wise. He had to take the chances and try and at least keep in touch with the points scoring positions otherwise he might as well have just parked in the garage before the race started. The moved worked perfectly the time before, was just unlucky to catch the rear wheel. As Martin said on the commentary you have to drive it back at walking pace to stop any damage to the floor and again that would be pretty damn pointless.

I hope Vettel is buying Max's drinks tonight! Without his (Max's) unsafe release, VB would have taken 2nd, Max 3rd and SV even further back (or beside Leclerc...)

Watched Monaco and Indy back to back. Despite the inevatability of Max not being able to overtake the ever-moaning Lewis...how Bono et al don't loose their rag with him I have no idea...I much preferred Monaco. Last 12 or so laps of Indy were quite exciting, but the production was awful and other than the cars playing skittles with their pit crews, not an awful lot of action. Interesting that Indy has, to some extent, the same problem as F1...the aero kits make it difficult to overtake.

Thanks for that, Kev.
As always, much appreciated.

Rules is rules ya giant massive baby :/

"They're stealing the race from us", nope, Seb was pressured into an error and they applied the rule as Seb went from the returning to the track on the left, going straight across to the right and pushing Lewis off the track.
No amount of crying "where else could I go" is going to change that. There was an alternative solution though, Seb could have lifted off to avoid an accident instead of making Lewis back off while at the side of him.

Seb is a good driver but he goes down in my estimation with his childish reactions.

I'm afraid that both SV and LH are similar when it comes to whinging. But when it comes to driving LH is a far better driver with a better temperament when under pressure. I am no fan of either of them, but personalities aside I rate LH much higher than SV. I am hoping the CL will step up and put SV under much more pressure, but I'm not convinced the team will let him. Hopefully he can sort out his Q3 performances and then let's see :)

I personally think nearly half the field drive better than vettel

Vettel is still fast, but out witted and out performed by Hamilton on most occasions, other things being equal.
Vettel has to push it and take risks now to keep in the same ball park with him.
He had the faster car on that track, but Hamilton was still matching him.

He actually went up in mine for moving the winning placards in front of the cars and then his “don’t boo Lewis” remarks on the podium. I generally don’t like him much but he showed some humour and was pretty gracious there.

If he had the fastest car in the track then how did ham close down a 5 second gap when he pitted and how did leclarc almost finish 2nd...
