Light Meter Recommendation

There seems to be some confusion here about form and function with regard to photographic equipment.

Maybe this short pictorial guide will help to clear things up...

It's easily done though…..I've been trying for months to figure out which end is which for the lens and DDS! Have to say that it offers some fantastic tilt and shift both front and rear :LOL:

Well a clay one with a base 3/4 inch thick should give best results I reckon(y)

DISCLAIMER: I best put one just in case there is some numpty out there that actually takes me seriously!:wideyed:

Well I did cut down a table tennis ball for my Weston meter...but I can't remember the results :(

Thanks everyone for all of your advice, it looked like the sekonic l308s were quite favoured and after looking online i couldnt find one available at a reasonable price. I went for the sekonic l308 x in the end in for a penny and all that. i have justified that i will also use it on the Voigtlander Perkeo when it arrives as well.

Love all? :sneaky:

I've two Westons without invercones...it seems people lose them. But as I have a Kodak grey card will try a few coffee cups to see if I can match exposure.
As I'm not an incident reading guy it's just AAMOI

That's where the Lunasix comes in handy, the cone is permanently attached to the front of it and just slides over the sensor when needed. However, unless just using it for retro re-enactment purposes, a separate light meter such as a Weston or Lunasix is pretty much irrelevant to me these days, due to a phone app that cost me less than the price of a fancy cup of coffee! I have my phone with me if I'm out and about, so why carry some additional redundant dead-weight.

Also, with the phone app I use, I can see an image of the area I'm taking a reading from, rather than (in the absence of a grey card, or something to act as one) pointing a light meter in the general direction and hoping it's reading from the area I want to expose for. So that's another variable avoided.

The original Invercone for the Weston can be found for under £10 delivered on ebay, and it's a clever design:

The smartphone apps can work well for reflective readings but generally don't do true incident readings (except for apps like Luxi that are designed to work with an accessory diffuser).

Thanks......the invercone is one of the things I look for at the bootie, one will turn up eventually for a bootie price.

There's one on our favourite auction site atm for £8 including free UK postage with a "make an offer" option!!

I reckon you may have to propose more than 50 pence though Bri ;)

I have said it before and will say it again.

If you want something for nought you get nought.;)
