motorbikes old/new...open thread??

Interesting looking engine, any ideas?
These Royal Enfield Bullets were fitted with an industrial Diesel engine and were marketed in the UK a long time ago I vaguely remember reading a contemporary road test at the time, can't remember any details.

200+ MPG but a top speed that wouldn't trouble an out-of-town camera! The combination of a 2 gallon tank and a frugal thirst make 400 mile non-stop stints possible but the vibration drops that to 50 miles or so (according to an owner I chatted with a few years back - he's kept it out of interest but rarely rides it other than to shows.)

I thought that was what it might be, I think "MotorCycle Sport (and Illustrated)" (or the BMW owners club magazine as it was unofficially known as) road tested one.

Hi, ... :

Tomorrow I shall take pics of the EIFELFAHRT, 250 vintage motorcycles taking part.

Impressions: https://www.motoclub.de/index.php/die-eifelfahrt/galerie-2017/

It is 100 miles from me. Getting up at 5.15 a.m. I plan to stand near the start first, because it will be very hot, and not all bikes will make it to the finish.

I have a fall-back position to go to, around noon, if something happens on the way, or if I do not get the right pics after the start.

From the organizer I got detailed routing information I need, because the bikes use "D-roads".

My approach is always You give me all the information I need, and you get pictures from me.

This has always worked ...

Have fun! Looking forward to seeing some of the results.

Sure! :) I packed my gear, and am looking very much forward to going there.

It is near the Nürburgring, in an area, I have not been for years (decades, come to think of it ... ;) ) ... ---

Hi, the EIFELFAHRT yesterday was very satisfying. However, I drove 5 hours, two hours to get there, three back in heavy holiday traffic with accidents ... ---

Lots of exciting bikes. One of my favourites, The EGLI VINCENT (frame #2, the owner told me):

Two things stand out
1 The length of that kick start
2 The section size of those TT100s

Hi, I agree.

ad1) Either the compression was very high, or it was the best replacement available.

ad2) Looks as if the front tyre is bigger than the rear. The rear should be at least 4.00-18, I think.

Again, tyres for vintage bikes may be difficult to obtain ...

1) If you've ever tried kicking one of those bastards, you'll know why!!! As Immo says, high compression on a 500cc cylinder ain't that easy to get over. Having said that, as standard they were "only" about 8.3:1 CR but they still take a bit of heft.

Hi, EIFELFAHRT 2019. The paddock by the Ahr:

Hi, a ZÜNDAPP KS 601 in perfect condition (some would say over-restored ... ):

Under-ridden rather than over-restored. ;)

Still would be (fast) on that outfit!!!

Yes, but I think, the values apply to the bike solo... (120km/h was the top speed of the Volkswagen Käfer, which was quite a lot in those days.)

Interestingly, ZÜNDAPP twins did not survive, in contrast to BMW. But BMW cars were more successful, and subsidised the bikes in the 60s.

And BMW was the police bike supplier ... ---

Hi, there was no starting order and not the typical minimal 1 minute interval at the Eifelfahrt. With over 250 bikes, this would have taken too long in the heat :

Hi, a vintage PEUGEOT motorcycle (they make cars, bicycles and pepper mills, too ...)

So sorry. Didn’t get to speak to the owner. Quite often see this bike. I’ll try and get details for you.

I fell in love today. So much so that I'm considering part exchanging my '14 plate T100 towards this... T140 motor, Uncle Bunt (allegedly!) frame.
