Press censorship

The article isn't about press censorship - which is a relief because I saw the case reported - there was no censorship.

It's more about social media and the #metoo movement - and as such it makes a valid point.

If you feel unable to admit that bad people who are Muslims are bad; won't say that bad people who are Israelis are bad; won't accept that bad people who are Christians are bad - then you are the problem.

Who do you think is doing the censorship and why?

I don't know who. Why? I suspect they are concerned it will stir up racist/religious tension and I think it probably would. Is that a reason to keep the public in the dark though?

The article is so true ,nobody wants to be branded a racist even the police tread lightly .. but it’s a problem that won’t go away , the men involved have been brought up in a totally alien to us culture and rather than intergrating into society they see nothing wrong in carrying on there third world norms in jolly olde England ..

Are there related cases still to be tried? That's quite common in this type of case, where reporting can risk the success of future cases.

Don't know tbh Phil. My understanding is that this trial is done & dusted.

I've had a busy weekend - but I thought it'd been reported as one of a series etc... with details of the total number of victims on Look North last week

Just seen. 10 more to stand trial in Huddersfield. Let's see how that gets reported.

Let’s hope they are found guilty if they did it, and also that Stephen Yaxley-Lennon doesn’t do anything to compromise another trial.

I see what you're trying to do. (He didn't compromise the last trial, the verdict was already in.)
I hope nobody compromises a fair trial.

Yeah I'm out in Crete so haven't got the local handle on it either. But if its a mesh or network then maybe it should be treated as one. I've seen no sign of that. Just lots of back covering by those who turned a blind eye.

Not trying to do anything. You may not think he did anything wrong, however he went to jail for it. Judges at the Old Bailey in London said that his conduct “amounted to serious interference with the administration of justice”.

Anyone found guilty of any crime, whether it be a rapist or a nazi found in contempt of court must face the consequences.

Totally agree. He was in contempt of court. Which is (rightly) why they slammed him up.
If he'd waited until sentencing he would not have broken his terms.
We're talking about him and not the child rapists. Sort of my point.

He came close to causing linked trials to collapse.

I'd assume in this instance there are linked trials as well, probably the "10 more" you've already mentioned.

Don't know Andy but from my view (for the seriousness of the issue) its wildly under reported. By comparison (accused in the 000's) Saville was a social worker.

You may consider that Theresa May actually contributed very heavily to the censorship PC culture and mass surveillance. I am so glad she is finally out but there are no signs of damage reversal and don't get me started on Borisov.

It may well be under reported, but if there are ongoing trials, and reporting would risk the offenders not get a fair trial, then the restrictions make sense. And I'd expect to see more reporting of it all once the linked trials are all completed.

There might have been lots of reports on Savile once the story was broken. But he got away with for decades as reports were just ignored. And there were no linked trials.

We’re considering Crete for next year, never been. Where are you staying and how is it?

We've just returned from Crete, very dramatic scenery and the people are friendly. The mountain roads defy description. Driving an underpowered Fiat people carrier over narrow crumbling roads with impressively steep gradients, hairpin bends over yawning chasms and almost no barriers somehow took the shine off the holiday.

If you're staying in hotel type accommodation then you might not need to self drive. We stayed in a beautiful modern but quite remote villa in the west of the island, I got the impression that the Eastern part of the island is less remote for holiday accommodation and also has more interesting places to visit.

Thanks
Not booked anything yet but it’ll probably be a hotel - my ‘Greek’ driving is limited to Cyprus (where it’s straightforward)

It’s my Mrs that fancies Crete which means we might have changed plans several times by then (about this time next year).

We are in " the island hotel " gouves.. its our 4th year. Quite & peaceful little place. We love it. Thoroughly recommended if you just want relaxation. Its on TUI website.

The prince Andrew case will be another one that will keep the press censors busy for a while.

There is no reason to suppose that the rumoured Prince Andrew story will ever be a matter for the British courts. except if it results in libel and slander cases. but that would be against those who publish false stories. it has nothing to to with censorship.

US press is not going to keep silent about it.

I don't see anything happening in the UK but he would be well advised not to travel to the US any time soon. But I really wish he did.

Just back from Chania (well, 4km West of the city itself) and Agia Gallini. Been going to the island for 20+ years and still find plenty new to do, although visiting friends and favourite places eats into our time now! Western end seems friendlier and less hectic than from Rethymnon Eastwards, although there's plenty to see and do away from the crowds. Would recommend the hotels/appartments we stay in but they're booked up a year or 2 in advance. Around 75% (if not more) of the guests in the Chania area one are repeat visitors, some for 25 years or more. Avoid all inclusive deals - the food outside the resort hotels is far better and relatively inexpensive.

That sounds very much like where we’ve been visiting in Corfu.
The outlaws have been going to the same hotel for 15 years up to 3 times a year

I've only been to Crete once, stayed in a small village about 15 miles east of Chania. I found it to be one of the most pro British and anti German places I have ever visited. I couldn't understand why until I visited the museum in Chania and saw just what the Germans did in WWII and how the local population helped the British troops who didn't get off the island and retreated into the hills.

Conspiracy theorists have been going on about Prince Andrews’s involvement with Jefferey Epstein long before anything was mentioned in the press.
Other well-known British names have also been linked to him as well as other Americans.
The Ted Heath story soon died of death as with Cyril Smith, which was a surprise, not!
