Hi

My Lightroom version CC 8.1 has a pop up message ‘Up dates available’

I have a purchased version of Lightroom not the monthly subscription version.

As I do not have an adobe account I can not update my Lightroom as the abode account is for monthly subscription Lightroom users.

How can I update my Lightroom, is there a down load file available ?

Advise please ?

Many Thanks

Last perpetual version was LR6, it's been subscription since then.

You should not worry about it. If your Lightroom CC 8.1 is still in good working order and you can use it, or if you can put up with any tiny problems, then you do not need to update. I had Microsoft Office 97 (with Word 97, Excel 97, and Access 97) on my Windows 7 Pro. Even thought Office 97 is 20 years out of date, it was still useable for me and I could get as much work done on them.

It's just normal for a lot of software to show that updates are available, but that does not mean you have to update.

I have got the full Adobe Photography subscription package but, as well as keeping my LR Classic, The Bridge and PS cc up-to-date, it also offers to update my PS CS6. Each time I have agreed to this update it fails with an error message. Various web posts suggest that I should uninstall and re-install. However, I am inclined to leave it alone as I do not need to use it unless I cease the monthly subscription which is currently unlikely at this time.

If you have version 8.1 you must be on the subscription model, you may have just bought the 12 month annual licence rather than paying monthly. You will have an adobe account as you couldn't activate without it. Even on the old standalone version 6 it had to be registered and you had to create an account to activate the licence. So you will have an Adobe account unless the software is not legit.

Lightroom CC 8.1 was the updated version in December 2018. The recent Lightroom CC update in November 2019 was to 9.0. I’m a bit confused here as to have Lightroom CC 8.1 say you can upgrade must mean at some point you have downloaded that version. Did you download the free trial and use for a short period? Even when I was on stand-alone I always thought I had to log into an adobe account as it was via that account I upgraded from LR4 to LR6 at the lower upgrade price rather than buying at the full LR6 price.

That’s a good point. It could be a 12 month pre paid subscription version. I don’t think LR6 as standalone has been able to be purchased for a while now. I heard Adobe removes it from their website.

@Tysonator did you purchase Lightroom recently? (Within the last year?)

I forgot you can pay in one hit, still subscription though and I agree you must have had an Adobe account
Easy enough to do the forgotten password bit, afraid you will get nowhere without signing in.

LR6 hasn't been available to buy for a while, there were a few copies left on Amazon and John Lewis, but all sold now

My advice, if you have PS and LR and its working...……...leave it alone, I have Adobe CC and since the big update, it has been nothing but bother, every time I go to use it I have to contact support and let them into my PC to sort it out and make it useable, my laptop is more than capable for anything I can chuck at it and PS should run PDQ on it i7 7700HQ CPU, 16GBRAM, SSD HDD and graphics are GTX1050 so it shouldn't freeze, but it does every time I try to open it, Adobes techs are in my laptop weekly.
