WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Trying to order some ceramic shampoo and detailing spray for my car from the manufacturers website since yesterday. On my phone their site takes for ever to load. When it does load I then click on a link for relevant products only for the loading process to start all over again. Try doing the same on my laptop. The site loads almost instantly. I try to log in with presaved details, but it doesn't recognise something and tells me to register. I register and it tells me that an account is already registered to my email account and to press the forgotten password link. I do that and type in the code number provided to prove I am not a robot. It then informs me that a reset has been sent to my email address. Try to open up emails on my laptop and the log in tab does nothing, it stays on the same page, the "Open an account" tab also does nothing. Back to phone, press email app and opens instantly and relevant email appears in the inbox. Open email and I am asked to click on the link to reset the password. I click on link and it takes me to the website which I am sure you will have guessed, refuses to load. Aaaaaaagh!!!
I could return to my laptop and purchase without logging in but that will mean not being able to use my loyalty points for money off and also not earning further loyalty points for future purchases.

The last two sentences contradict themselves. I’m not sure what you mean.
I'll try and explain, expand on that slightly differently.
It's not actually illegal to feed live prey to "predators" however it is illegal to cause pain and suffering to an animal in your care,
no matter how briefly that animal is in your care.
It could be argued that you have caused pain and suffering by putting prey in with a predator.
And this is where the basis of the prosecution come in.
But then we have to "believe" animals have same traits / feeling / emotions as humans. ( anthropomorphism )

I’ve done a bit of Googling and it seems that these activities are carried out in the US.
Yes, you are correct, PETA is a USA based foundation, Its really not that long ago they started getting involved in the UK Animal welfare system.
And as you will appreciate there are different laws, in the UK to the USA.

There are high profile people here who support the organisation .
Absolutely, The public face of PETA as is the Public face of the RSPCA, one that many people would support. Rich / famous or otherwise.
But the hard truth is, well you have seem some for yourself now.

.I can’t see us sharing any common ground on this issue
If everyone agreed what a boring place it would be eh? I'm happy to agree to disagree (y)

but at least I’ve learned a few things I was unaware of.

I hate websites that do this. They’re designed for desktop users but are not optimised for mobile phone users. Sometimes a site won’t load. Sometimes the banner gets in the way of the menu or hyperlinks. Sometimes the menu doesn’t work properly. In this day and age of prolific mobile phone use, I think it’s inexcusable.

or websites that have only been tested to work with one browser.........

As I posted in the WCMUT thread. I got there in the end with just a few seconds of loading time at each step. I ordered from the site last week on my phone and each page loaded instantly.

Damn BMW driver, coming home earlier, straight bit of road, BMW was coming along a side road, stopped and just before I got to the junction decided to pull out !!! WTF
Luckily nothing coming the other way so I could swing out.

Blasted Audi driver !

Turning L out of SouthPark Ave onto University Ave [ Glaswegians will know what this is like ] - road nice and empty - nothing coming so I started my turn and this black Audi parked outside the Uni just put his foot down , and started a U turn coming straight at me !! - oh no signal of course !! I stopped rather quickly ! Then once he was straight, I started down Uni Ave.

He's now about 2 car lengths in front of me as I'm heading down to go Right to enter Kelvin Way and then he slammed on everything and stopped dead ! As I did too . No traffic behind me and none in front of him .

Why did he stop - saw an empty parking bay and wanted to reverse into it .

I was kind - and let him - and for some reason it took him 3 attempts . I had to remain stationery because of his fiddling about - could not swing over and continue - there was traffic in the other direction . Fortunately still none behind me [ and that at noon is a trifle unusual ]

Once he was just about tucked in I started to move and blow me if he didn't start fiddling again !

Pulled up beside him and held my hands up in a questioning fashion and he rolled down his window and asked me what I wanted - so I very politely asked his permission to continue driving on the road .

The folk who were on the pavement watching this performance applauded :D

A "snowglobe" photo booth. Well, not the booth itself but the escaped "snow" - small plastic granules that are washed down the drains. And the attitude of the people who should be clearing it up - "It's p***ing down so we won't bother sweeping it up." (Paraphrased.)

Bloody BT as if it's not bad enough that the internet keeps dropping out the bloody hub's like a disco light now there email servers are down as well all I get is

All working flawlessly here................

WAMT? Not being able to buy stuff in Amazon's bleak Friday sale without signing up to prime. Was tempted to say f*** 'em but that would be cutting off my nose to spite my face so will just cancel when I get the warning email (and my phone alarm beeps at me!)

Cancel now. I signed up accidentally once (haven't most of us.................:(), cancelled immediately and still got the month of free deliveries. Came in quite handy at the time as it just so happened I needed to order a few actual things, rather than just ebooks.

I'll do it when the stuff's arrived. I started doing it as soon as the order went through and got warned that it could affect my order so opted for the 3 day warning.

Might get myself a couple of winter solstice gifts while I have free, fast delivery...

I managed it ok without signing up, but baffled on how they would have honoured the one day delivery when the tracking shows the item is coming from Germany

Sold some lights on ebay that were in perfect working order. Buyer has left positive feedback and had the lights just over 2 weeks and has now messaged to say that after using one of the heads that it has stopped working and would like a refund on that head.

We're in the process having a new kitchen installed. It started today so the kitchen is gutted. Not to be recommended but as my wife says ,it will be worth it in the end but nevertheless. I'm a man of routine and it's upset it no-end..lol.

But.. WAMT was that we called the shop this morning that's delivering the appliances tomorrow. A tall freezer, a dish washer and a washing machine..all Bosch so not cheap..a Neff electric oven and Neff induction hob. All due to be delivered tomorrow....sometime. We also have the worktops coming tomorrow and the garage already has all the cabinets, plumbing gear, lightinmg etc in it. So..it's best to get these appliances here in the morning so they can go straight through the garage into the side enclosed structure and the worktops can come in the afternoon into the garage. It will be full with that delivery. We've spoken to the kitchen retailer people and no problem delivering the worktops late afternoon.

To have the appliances delivered between 8.00am and 1.00pm rather than 'anytime' as was scheduled will cost £15. There's nothing we can do but spending so much seems to have been lost on them. I'm sorry for those on here who run businesses in a decent way but it's just grist to the mill of why I hold business in such low regard. I do emphasis that there are good people running businesses and we've had experience of them but they're in the minority in my opinion.Nod's post re Amazon makes my point for me and I've read posts on here by members who have had less than good experiences with retailers and tradesmen.

Maybe someone on here who is in or familia such retail outlets can offer a reason as to why changing from 'anytime' during the day to a morning delivery would involve cost ? Are their margins so tight they have to make it where they can ? It wasn't Curries by the way.

Simply put a timed delivery removes the flexibility to take the most fuel and time efficient route in favour of your request and those of others with similar requirements.

I used to have a snake, and the advice I was given was that live prey should only be used as a last resort if he was refusing pre-killed.

Not sure how much truth there is in the advice I was given.

It depends on how long ago that was.
Years ago, most snakes were imported and they obviously ate live prey in the wild.
To suddenly switch to what is effectively carrion, in captivity would have been a hell of a shock!

Most importers would feed live interspersed with dead. And shouldn't morally sell the snake until it was feeding on dead.
But of course not all did that and once bought sometimes live prey was used to trigger the feeding response.

I'm not sure but I think the law changed with the 2006 animals act. ( it may have been earlier)

Fair enough.

They forgot,though..lol. We called them 30 minutes after the deadline which was 1.00pm. Big apologies and a refund. It's all comimng tomorrow ,first drop. All's well that ends well, I say.:)

How come when I want a snack and I ask Mrs WW if she wants anything from the kitchen she always say No but when I come back with something nice she expects half. You either do or you don't. I asked her and she said she didn't want anything. That should be the end of it. Happens time after time. It's the same when we're out and I fancy some chips, she never wants any but then eats half of mine.

Yes, how come some people think it's perfectly acceptable to help themselves to some chips off a friend or relative's plate, often without even uttering the seemingly rhetorical "Can I have a chip?"; but no one seems to do same with sprouts, carrots or any other veg, or sees fit to help themselves to half of your soup?!

I eat far too healthily to have to worry about people wanting to share my food. The cat however is a different matter. She never just takes. She will at least ask, but I always offer anyway and make sure I have extra to feed her.

I bought an eyepiece extender to be delivered to my local branch of Curry's... The extender itself comes vastly overpackaged in a box about the size of a matchbox... That small box was in a plastic bag that measured 30x20 inches!

Explanation: that's the smallest bag they have to pack stuff in centrally. FFS.

I received a small plastic minifigure keyring measuring approx 2" x 3/4" x 1/2" for my granddaughter that was shipped from Belgium via courier in a box that was 12" x 9" x 6"

They sent my work 20 half metre RJ45 patch leads once. Each in it's own large box, protected by lots of giant bubble wrap.
Took the driver three trips to bring them all in.
Unpacked, you could hold them all in one hand.

Being told to meet at a certain Harvester for family meal to celebrate my niece's 21st birthday to find out on arrival that my niece's parents had actually booked the table at a different Harvester about 7 miles away. The only reason her parents and her siblings were the only ones to arrive at the correct Harvester was because the knew the post code.

Watching the BBC News I’ve just listened to Ian Lawrence, General Secretary of NAPO...that’s the Probation Service..‘correct’ the news reader who referred to those on probation as ‘offenders’ telling him..quote..’We prefer to call them clients’ I don’t know which emoticon means. ‘Fuming’ but if it did I’d use it. I’ll settle for this one :banghead:

Collins english dictionary, for anyone who thinks that might be appropriate, states....’A client of a professional person or organisation is a person or company that receives a service from them in return for payment’. Well, clearly an offender, found guilty is directed by the court, into the supervision of the Probation Service and obviously doesn’t pay.

Apart from that their own websites (below) refers to them as offenders. I just don’t get it. Maybe someone, more enlightened than I am, has an explanation. It seems to me to be an attempt to give the offenders some kind of dignity. They can have that bestowed upon them after they are fully rehabilitated and stay on the straight and narrow.

The BBC War of the worlds.

What a steaming pile of PC virtue signalling revisionist low budget BBC poo poo.

The only good thing about it is it's finished. If anyone is planning to watch this on catch up do yourself a favour and don't. They've probably done a worse job with this than they did with the last Dr Who, IMO another thing ruined by having to have all the right messages rammed down viewers throats.

I've just read that the BBC has been sitting on this for two years... Why show it now? Gosh knows.

Haven't watched this yet, but if it triggers Alan it's probably right up my street :).

When I read the book, I thought it would work well in 'combat shakycam' style, perhaps in black and white. There was a real feeling of reportage about the description of the fall of London.

The first episode showed so much promise and I enjoyed that, but it fell flat from there on.
Mind you I had seen a trailer on YouTube a few months ago where someone had used Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds music and that had raised expectations somewhat. Having been a big fan of Jeff Wayne's masterpiece since 77 and seen the show with my sons 5 times now, I would like to see a film/tv series made in conjunction with the music.
There is another WOTW due to air soon, I think it will be on Fox, but i think it will be a modern day version again.

The only filmed version that works for me is the 1953 version with Gene Barry and Anne Robinson probably because it has very little if anything to do with the book. I was taken to see it in the cinema so I guess it must have been an 'A' in Britain. The latest BBC version drove me out of the room in less than 15 minutes which is faster than even Tom Cruise's ghastly effort.

No one's ever done a really decent adaptation though Jeff Wayne's musical with Richard Burton as the narrator comes closest in my opinion.
