The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Brilliant pics! I am curious to know your thoughts on this lens vs the 23/2...

Have you shot the one against the other? Did you choose the 1.4 because of maximum aperture, looks and feel of the lens or other reasons?

I really like the f/1.4 since it just looks (IMHO!) better than the f/2...
Would love to hear your thoughts...and hoping I don't make you repeat yourself since I have asked this question more than once...;)

I have only had the 23mm f1.4 for a day or so, but it is better than the 23mm f2 as the more light you get from the f1.4 but both are great.

:D

Not fantastic shots of my model, but not bad either as the room was very dark. X-E3 + XF 18mm f2.

Very nice. Though joking aside I think the 16mm has this area covered for me. I’m loving that lens. It’s much more versatile than I imagined. The close focus ability is a real bonus.

You have one hell of a cracking lens in the 16mm, I did love it but needed the room in my bag for two cameras with the lenses on hence the sale and glad your chuffed with it.

I’ve actually had a bit of a change of heart recently and am really loving the primes. I still really rate the zooms, especially the 10-24 but I’m enjoying the primes with the Fuji bodies much more than I ever did with my Canon setup.

Don`t get me wrong, but the zooms Fuji put out are just in a class of their own and when it comes to the primes well they are in another class of their own.

I agree 100% with this. I had over £10K worth of Canon L goodness, but it didn't feel as special as the Fuji items. In terms of photographic capability, I have no doubt I could produce 'better images' but as it didn't feel as good to use I didn't really use the kit to anywhere near its potential. Having read a few of the Fuji Love magazines, I can see that it isn't just me that feels this way. :)

Nice shot, the 18-55 did a great job there, and the DOF is great even at F4 :)
Cheers Rick, yeah some calculated placement between camera and background can certainly allow f4 to render like an f2.8 and the added bonus is the lens is pretty sharp wide open. Even 6400 ISO has rendered itself well.

Argghh please help. We are hoping to get my mother-in-law a harvest mice photography workshop, but alas of course she would need some company... (yep that's me :plus1:). But they recommend a macro lens to be able to get up and close. I only have 16-80 and Tamron 100-400, so any suggestions for a macro and also recommendations for hiring one?

Fuji 80mm...the 60mm is not 1:1 capable but only 1:2 so half the magnification basically...

A harvest mouse isn't smaller than the sensor so I don't think 1:1 would be mandatory, I'd ring the workshop place and understand the required FOV, you may find that your existing 16-80 is capable at 80mm.

Not sure why they recommend a macro lens, unless you're wanting extreme close ups of the mice, as in filling the frame with small parts of them - any lens with decent close focusing should do it I'd say your 16-80 is plenty good enough

I'd started my post went away and came cack to submit before seeing this but yup, agree

For hirering the 80mm for sure. But if it`s outdoors, I would have thought either of what you have already will be ok depending on space needed etc. Lots of dragonfly pix are with the big guns as opposed to macro.

Thanks so much for the advice. Really pleased you have said the 16-80 may be ok anyway, as I was sorta hoping it would be. I'm still thinking in the future of maybe getting a f2 prime lens but not really needing a macro.

Finally managed to get out and try the Samyang 12mm. Had one before on my X-T1, but first time using this one with the X-E2.
Very awkward to get focus spot on without dunking my backside in the water, so I don't think they are as focussed as they could be, but the lens seems pretty sharp.
Think these were f/8, ISO 200

X-E3 + XF18mm f2 I totally love this cracking little lens and for me I think the reviews that slate it are rubbish, if you are thinking of buying it then get it.

The first image I found very creepy as it really did remind me of the little girl in the Red coat in the film Schindler`s List.

Some nice varied shots there Dave, it looks like a good lens indeed. Nice combo you have there.

A race up one of the fells overlooking Keswick and I ended up with this piccie. Edited initially in Capture One and further meddled with in PS. I still can’t decide between CO and LR if I’m honest. I’m convinced CO gives a slightly better Raw conversion but LR is so much easier to use, mostly because I hate ‘unlearing’ things.

Sweet hoping to get a long weekend away early next year hopefully when there is some snow top like you mentioned.

(y)

I can thoroughly recommend Nick Livesey’s book ‘Photographing The Snowdonia Mountains’ if you’ve not already read it. Some great walks (climbs and scrambles as well) and photo tips.

We’re hoping to walk Crimpiau this week. Looks like some ace views from there and a fairly easy walk to stop the wife from complaining! :p

Just having a play with the close focus capability of the 16 1.4.

Idea stolen from @JasonPC (thanks) Two fridays ago when in Snowdonia, I noticed wind had dropped, path was treacherous though, sheet ice everywhere, even in the middle of the day. It is rarely still here, normally this end of the Ogwen valley is blowing a gale.
