Hello all! I’ve got a 7D and a sigma 150-600 on it. I’ve got a cheapish amazon sling style strap but I’m always a bit worried of it unscrewing and falling off or something, plus it ain’t 100% great on my shoulder.

ive heard black rapid straps are great but I don’t know which one I should go for?
anyone have any suggestions or different make of strap?

Thanks for any help

Black rapids aren't as popular as they used to be they had a bit or rep a couple of years back with failing.

Most people then switched over to the Peak Design slide straps.

How about Thorsten Overgaard's Yosemite straps? - $298-$388 depending on lengh and material. :)

I've always been dubious about the security of sling straps, since even the big names have had issues, let alone a no-name strap from Amazon/ebay. Op/Tech Pro straps are relatively cheap, comfortable, distribute weight well, and are attached to the camera the way the manufacturer intended.

I use Peak Design sling straps on my DSLR's - very impressed with them and have had no failures. I tried a Black Rapid in the shop, but as the straps both secure to the camera at the same point, the camera kept banging my hip when moving round - not nice when it's a D4 and fast zoom. The Peak Design one secures at two different points and doesn't have the same issue. Id' definitely recommend them.

I use the Op-Tech Dual harness, mostly with just one camera (it works equally well with one or two cameras attached).
It uses the standard camera lugs, so avoids any issues of blocking the tripod socket or of the tripod screw working lose.
Great at weight distribution, though perhaps not as 'stylish' as alternatives like the Holdfast (but then it's designed for function, rather than looking pretty!)

Optech utility sling. The Optech system is modular so I have several of the clip on straps made up with an assortment of the PD QR thingies and bush adaptors so whatever camera/lens combination I'm hanging on it I can attach to the camera lugs, tripod bush, lens foot bush or lens foot bar (in the case of the 150-600mm), in any combination.
I had a Black Rapid, but they're expensive, I had to adapt it to a 2 pointer myself, then the bush adaptor started sawing its way through the karabiner, although admittedly it wasn't the BR adaptor that did that. And it clanked - not really what you want for wildlife.

I use a black rapid setup for my 7D and sigma 150-600 and have had no problems that I can blame the strap for.
I read a lot of stories about the metal swivel wearing and breaking, so I back it up with a strap from the conventional strap loop on the top of the camera to a carabina clipped through the BR strap itself, avoiding the metal loops.
I have the twin strap, Mrs M has the single. If only taking one body I find it useful to clip the other side to my belt, it helps support the weight and keeps my trousers up :)

Thank you for all the feedback so far guys! I’ll be defo looking into the peak design ones as well!

Like a few others, I use Optech straps (my oldest one is over 30 years old and still in use), along with Optech and Peak Design camera attachments. The range of straps designs and accessories makes it a versatile system to buy into. It also tends to be cheaper than the competition.

The utility strap allows a double attachment and you can loop two Optech attachments round the tripod collar of a long lens and have two connectors attached to the strap (that's how I use it with a Nikon 200-500.

:plus1: For Optech used them for years no problems at all.

I use a Optech neck strap on one camera, and a Black Rapid sling on the other. I dislike the Black Rapid, and I noticed a lot of wear on the fastener. I now use it with a dual sided carabiner, but also a secondary tether to something else on the camera as once I had the tripod mount fastener unscrew and a camera and lens crash to the ground. I don't store the cameras in my bag with the sling attached to the screw, and always check it when fitting it - but it came undone.

I have one of these for times I feel need for a strap, whether for ease of carrying or a degree of anti-snatch security.

Mostly I prefer a wrist strap but haven't bought one it's made out of a bit of paracord.

Hmmm... sold out, but there are a zillion clones on Ebay.

Anyone found a decent quality + comfy equivalent? (Sony A7ii + kit lens for weight)

OpTechstraps for me, about 15 years in, never had an issue, never had a failure, nowt fancy, not over engineered - they just work.
I’ve a couple of neck straps, dual harness, sling and wrist strap.
