Getting a weird grid on a handful of images on my 5Div. I've only noticed it on very few but it's there. I put an image into Colour EfEx 4 today to get some detail out of the file and noticed it then. I exaggerated this one to show it.

I'm guessing it's some kind of sesnor phenomenon?

There's a hint of it at normal levels, but not every image.

Following as I noticed a grid when using color Efex in something the other day. It was an Olympus file not Canon, I think.

I didn’t pay too much attention as I don’t usually use Color Efex and thought maybe it was applying a texture, but now you’ve made me wonder.

I think it was only in one option, so perhaps it’s a bug?

I am wracking my brain, I recall reading about such a grid pattern 'appearing' that was an artifact of the post processing.

Bearing in mind I spend way too much time here at TP......was it here? As for when..........last year.....year before that???

PS as mentioned above, none too sure but think it was based on raw file not ooc jpegs?

Weird. Not seen anything like that before. Wild guess - it's a demosaicing/debayering glitch with Color Efex.

Easy to check. What happens to that image file when enlarged on the camera's LCD? How does it look when processed in other software?

Edit: google suggests it's possibly something to do with Color Efex and noise related?

I wonder if this isnt the PDAF grid. Ive seen a perfect grid like this before from other cameras, not caused by post processing.

Thanks for the replies.

I've had a little mooch around my images and it's rarely seen on any of my images, it really is just a handful. It sems to be mainly on images that I've not exposed correctly by underexposing and processing also seem to play its part, I think it's something to do with Colour EfEx Pro4, or could be the whole Nik package, I'm not sure.

With pdaf (depending on camera) you'll see it in heavily backlit images. If it's software then that's a easy fix :)

I once saw a grid made of dots rather than squares when processing Fuji raws and that was down to a version issue with Adobe DNG. I changed version and away they went. Other than that I've never seen anything like this.
