What Chair?

Hi, OK with the problems we have at this time I would assume many are sitting in front of monitors looking and working on images so the question what chair are you sitting on? I have been looking online and there are chairs that you would not sit grandma in and chairs that cost so much you wouldn't take the plastic off!!
So what do you use and where did you or where do you purchase your chair from. As part of the older generation I don't want or need a games chair I need a chair that will last and be comfy to sit on for sometimes a long time. Stay safe and thankyou, Russ.

I worked from home full time (8 hrs plus every day) for many years and now thankfully am only part time. I spent what I felt was a fortune at the time on a Herman Miller Aeron chair - it is really comfortable and highly adjustable. I still use it daily and it is in perfect condition - never a problem. So it's worth spending on a decent chair for regular use which will stand the test of time. I made the same argument with myself when I bought a Gitzo tripod... I won't be buying another tripod for many a long year ;)

I blanched when I looked up the price but you can can a refurbished one for £300 ish.. https://www.londonaerons.co.uk/

Currently a dining room chair, which is OK for a couple of hours but starts to get bloody uncomfortable after that so watching with interest..

Just had a bad bout of back trouble and thinking it was the chair I ended up in John Lewis trying them all. This one was far and away the best as it had adjustments to get that perfect position, felt supportive and was comfortable to both sit back in, as well as work. Every other chair [in John Lewis] was pants by comparison.

With the price though, I simply couldn't justify it. However that site you linked Helen looks interesting... Have you used it, or was it just a Googling?

I have a beaten up old office chair from Ikea. Surprisinly comfortable ;)

I haven't used the site and can't vouch for them, I just googled to see how much they were these days - there are some refurbished ones one ebay too. Have to say nothing has ever gone wrong with mine in more than 15 years so I would think refurbished would be pretty good. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I too was using a Herman Miller chair and they are very good and comfy but agree a bit expensive.

Had to put in a bed in the box room for my son, so the chair is now in the attic until I decide were to move my pc. [emoji30]

I bought it from a local ebay seller and was happy with it.

Looking at their accounts they still have a few for sale if you are close to west London.

I had a Herman Miller at work (a couple of different types) and am happy with the John Lewis for the home.

Hi, thanks for the replies. Cannot afford the Herman so will have a look at the JL when I get a chance to. Thanks again, Russ.

Office chair from Argos many years ago, I recently replaced the castors for ones suitable for the new Amtico flooring.
I use a back roll as well to prevent the slumping that is the cause of so many back problems.

I went with a Secretlabs chair, they do a range of sizes to suit your frame. Whilst they call them gaming chairs they are far from just that. Depending on the model you can get a lumbar pillow or adjustable built in lumbar support. I have sat for hours in mine and often used to get lower back pain. Not in my Secretlabs Omega. I went with a fabric covering on the seat and back to help keep cooler and less sweaty than PU leather or real leather ( I've had both before )

Worth a look.

Wife and self each have a "Stressless Consul" easy chair with the optional computer table. Hers is the small and mine the large. Not cheap but an excellent investment in comfort...

Rather than ask a new similar question....................I thought I would bump this one ;)

I am seeking to replace my very old 'typists chair' worn out and has no arm rests :(

So, looking for an office type chair with folding armrests and good range of adjustability including tilt/rock (with locking to hold position if/as needed).................oh and stating the obvious comfortable :)

Is that possible for around the £100 mark, or maybe I need to allow for £150 - 170???

NB the one linked in post #2 by @Nawty looks good but lacks lumbar adjustment.................I spotted a brand called Hbada with their Ergonomic Chair that do/does have adjustable lumbar support for approx £120...???

Any fresh (on top of the replies above) insights & suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA :)

In the lounge it's a three seater leather setee and in the converted garage its a gas lift bar stool ... don't stay on the stool too long, with a low back and slippery seat it's challenginmg! :woot:

A good place to look for decent chairs is a second hand office supplies shop. New companies often wants to install new furniture and simply ditch the existing stuff even if it is in good nick.

I sit on this

I'd recommend a straight leather or alcantara one, the cowhide finish is quite fragile.

Probably needs a cushion, if for nowt more than to get the height right. If your fingertips are resting on the keyboard, then your elbows should be at the same level ...

I bought one of these or one very like it with a different makers name https://www.amazon.co.uk/AMILZ-Ergo...hen&sprefix=Efgonomix+off,kitchen,186&sr=1-12
Got it as a stop gap until I could get out and try some in person. Don't think I'll bother now because this one is surprisingly comfortable. Removed the headrest, it's held on by two hex bolts and it didn't suit me. Obviously this chair won't last for years, but can't complain for the money

I'd like to have a go with one of these https://www.posturite.co.uk/kab-24h...MIluTp67Ke8QIVR-N3Ch3HoApUEAYYASABEgKABfD_BwE or even one of these at half the price https://ukstore.hermanmiller.com/pr...MIluTp67Ke8QIVR-N3Ch3HoApUEAYYByABEgLt_vD_BwE

The issues are ergonomics and durabilty. But I've made do with an IKEA chair (£99) for the last 16 yrs. About half way through that time, the tilt mechanism broke, so I did an expedient repair with a bolt, but it no longer adjusts. The rise & fall is still ok. And I've re-covered the seat.

I have a hag H04 Credo in black leather with adjustable arm rests https://www.fineback.co.uk/hag-cree...MI9qmHhNGe8QIVjPjVCh0mCwJrEAQYBiABEgLvpvD_BwE

Didn't pay that price for it, I bought it for £90 off abaya nd drove 50 miles to pick it up. Practically new condition and was part of an office clearance, he had another 10 to get rid of but that ws a few years ago.

I suffer with a bad back from an old injury, thankfully this chair really helps keep me ache free!

I always keep an eye out for another Hag bargain whenever on eBay.

I've always struggled with 'normal' office chairs, I'm never quite comfortable and constantly fidget! However, working from home during Covid meant I needed a new chair and took it as a chance to try something different. Lots of research into Ergonomic chairs suggested Autonomous and Miller as the ones to go for... but the price! I wanted the Autonomous Ergo Pro, but I ended up with a similar looking one from Hbada, it's high back, mesh back, fully adjustable with lumbar support, at around £180 and love it. I would not go back to a normal padded chair, it's Mesh all the way now. My son has even got the same chair now for his gaming set up, getting rid of a traditional padded leather gaming chair.
