Where's that,Richard ? I've just read the link in your post . I'm obviously missing a trick here.
The link was in your post! “usnews”.
Re-read. Gothcha. In that small print. Ok..Now I see what you mean .
It is in the sub+head but also in the text “I am a virologist and associate director of the Animal Diagnostic Laboratory at Penn State University, and my laboratory studies zoonotic viruses, those that jump from animals and infect people. Most of the pandemics have at least one thing in common: They began their deadly work in Asia or Africa. The reasons why may surprise you.
Too many haven't a clue what's going on
Oh yes, Americans are so insular :).

The vultures are gathering. Saw Ian Duncan Smith on TV last night giving extended praise to Johnson while saying Raab is the Deputy Prime Minister — not true. If Johnson can’t continue as PM presumably a new one will be found by Tory MPs rather than their cumbersome party leader election system.

He is in intensive care isn't he?

My cousin works in a Sue Ryder charity shop in Bedford and just been told that due to the financial impact of Coronavirus their shops and hospices may have to close.

Wow, ok there's clearly no point carrying on as both of you have obviously no intention of believing anything other than firing / sacking her is in the benefit of peoples health. Clearly ye think there's a roomful of people just hanging about twiddling their thumbs that can simply slip into the role, but more importantly have the skills to replace her with no detriment to health policy.

But you said it yourself. There needs to be a clear message, she was stupid and contradicted it. Clearly not capable of holding that position.

Anyway, my view is unimportant. What's telling is that she thought she should resign and the First Minister agreed.

I have no idea how I came to write 'your link'. Obviously, mine

Ok..lol. I can see what's happened. When I read that.ie .'the reasons may surprise you' I wasn't expecting something other than what came after that and thought .yes..we know that and blanked it then I got side-tracked getting that second link up and having a quick look at it because it's quite long. Job done..post. Need to slow down, me thinks.:)

When I was over there ,once a year for 8 years and got talking to some I was quite surprised at how little or even unaware many were about world events. Infact, coming back from one trip I was seated next to a chap who turned out to be visiting a couple of universities in the UK and Europe to lecture and we got talking about US politics which I have an interest in as many on here do and he said he was surprised at how much I was aware of US politics and that he was impressed by how much students in the UK and Europe were aware of current affairs in the US and worldwide too and put the blame on the education system in the US which I know nothing about. I think I'll see what I can find out about that.

Apologies for all that :)

Apart from members of the public what a dreadful toll this virus is taking with medical and Care Home staff and no doubt more to come.I think the figure in Italy is at 8%. which includes 50 doctors.

In Spain 15,000 (as of April 2nd.)affected and unable to work accounting for 15% of all patients. Taking into account the worldwide economic ramifications of this virus it's truly on an epic scale and isn't done yet.

And why is my answer in a box with your quote..? lol. I had problems trying to delete a post the other day and was sorted on here. Is there a course I can can go on ? :)

There's going to be a clap for Boris apparently.

Is it a slow clap for ignoring WHO advice, ignoring the test and contact tracing model that's been proven to work and for the lack of PPE and ventilators? And most likely contracting the virus whilst ignoring social distancing guidelines and bragging about shaking hands with COVID-19 patients?

I hope he gets well, for the sake of his unborn child as much as anything. Wouldn't wish harm on him. But he's not really done anything worthy of a round of applause in this crisis.

Yes but only as a precaution in case he needs a ventilator.
I am hoping that is true, it would be disastrous for the countries moral if the Prime Minister was to succumb to this but all info we have received so far on his condition is from the government. Unusually for such a high profile patient, there's no statement from the hospital, unless I've missed it.

They said he'd received "oxygen support", which is a face mask not a respirator. Don't think that was from the hospital directly, I'm just assuming we're not being lied to.

He didn't seem that ill when speaking the other day that he was within days of needing a respirator though, he could talk better than I could the other week, when I couldn't get through a sentence without a coughing fit or struggling for breath.

There was a report from the hospital this morning that he did not require ventilation, but had been given oxygen therapy.

I would be wary of those who are currently offering the most fulsome praise and best wishes for the PM. I should imagine that certain Tory MP’s have already formed What’s App groups to discuss ‘the succession’ .

I presume you mean Johnson and not Ian Duncan Sh*t, but IDS certainly should been having some kind of ‘treatment’ years ago. Preferably some form of electro-shock therapy.

Gove saying this morning he's not on a ventilator as well, but again, no statement from the hospital but sources in the Times saying the same. I hope that is the case and they are not lying to us but I feel they've not been completely transparent about his health so far.

I've seen the report in the Times which quotes unnamed 'sources' at the hospital, but no official statement.

Hmm I seem to recall that there is often an official statement from the hospital where high profile cases are involved.

Leaving aside personal animosity: if Johnson is unfit to make decisions he should be replaced immediately. No-one should be irreplaceable and thus a single point of failure.

Appreciate this may be in bad taste, but its a great piece of PR for him and the government - being cynical (and appreciate that he is the PM so will be taken into ICU as a precaution) is this something the government are pushing from the PR angle as well as health?

It’s odd that journalists immediately started asking “who is running the country?”, it seems they don’t understand how the country works (much as we saw during the Brexit shenanigans). I can understand why the hoi polloi think the Queen is ‘in charge’ because they are pig ignorant (sorry piggies, you are much more intelligent :)) have never given it any thought, but journalists! There has been talk of Johnson as “the captain of the ship” but not since the days of sail have ships captains been able to do all the jobs on a ship , though even now they are more competent than any Prime Minister or President :(.

It really wound me up on the questions yesterday - and Peston was the worst! Like any organisation, of course the government will function, in the same way if my CEO was off for a period of time. If my CEO went off sick today the same way Boris has there would be no impact on the company.

A man who has lived his entire life recklessly, selfishly, irresponsibly and without any regard for the consequences. Because he's never needed to. His enormous privilege has protected him from any repercussions.

He is a proven pathological liar, swaggering through the years with no empathy or concern for anyone but himself. Indeed, recently bragging about shaking hands with Corona virus patients as if it was just another laugh. Even he can't lie & bluster his way out of this mess.

...and now the only thing standing between Johnson and the grim reaper are the doctors and nurses working for the organisation he and his party helped to savage. Fate has an uncanny way of coming back to bite you in the arse.

Good job he didn't vote to deny them all a payrise.

Oh, hang on a minute...

Are they the only party to have introduced budget cutbacks in the NHS?

Can we not leave off the insults for now?
The problem in this case is the immense ill will that Johnson's party has created over the last few years which has been made all the worse by the triumphalism of his supporters. It would be really good if we could pull together in the circumstances but the reality is (unfortunately) somewhat different.

Really?
Dominic Raab is his stand-in and the rest of his cabinet are there
I don't see why Boris needs to be replaced....
It doesn't sound to me as if you've left your personal animosity aside.

I get that, but it would be good to think that on here we're better than that.
Obviously not
