Hello all,

I'm going to need some B&W 120 film processing in the near future, which processors are still open ?

Thanks all

Filmdev, agphotographic, peak imaging that I can think of immediately. There are more but I've only just got up and can't remember them....

Filmdev aren't doing B&W at present though.

With B\W easy to do at home I can't see understand why people (not newbies) send film off to the labs and wait days for the results.....If scanning is a problem I originally used a scanner from Gumtree for a fiver that was good enough for posting JPG's here.

Depends on how much B&W you shoot though. Even with a freebie dev tank, it still cost me in the region of £100 to buy all the stuff I needed to get started. I would also want the best possible scans I could get, even assuming a cheap scanner could be found 2nd hand, so there would be a notable outlay there too. All depends on personal needs though I suppose.

I dev my own B&W now, but mainly because my hand was forced by the lockdown and closure of labs. Before that, because I live close to Peak Imaging, I could walk there, drop my film off in person, and then collect the negs a few hours later, so for with B&W I never really had much of a wait (or any postage costs).

It is down to the scanning for me Brian, I've not used any Microsoft products for at least 15 years and many of the scanners will not work or have problems with Linux, I did have a cheap scanner at one point but the quality was very poor and it didn't last very long before it started to scratch the negs.

In the old days when I did a lot of B\W it was fun trying out all the developers on the market....if my memory still works I can still remember a few names like Microdol, Hyfin, accu.. something, D76 etc etc but finally settled on Johnsons Unitol (one shot).

"accu.. something" probably Acufine, Acutol or Acutol-S. As a matter of interest, did you mena Microphen (a powder developer, slightly speed increasing)?

Well the name Microdol but with an "X" added is commonly mentioned on the net apparently it superceded Microdol...... so my memory might be working as it was a long time ago ;)
Checked on Hyfin and that was made by Ilford.

I would definitely develop more if I had a better scanning setup. It's not just about having something for posting here, or wherever (I don't post/share much if anything any more aside from dropping one on Instagram every few days) but I still want the best scans possible. Also, as @FishyFish says, it depends how often you do it. My chemicals have expired now so I would have to buy a new load just to do a roll or two (I have none needing developing currently).

I've decided to go with AG Photographic as Ilfords lab only had two scan settings very small and over the top for Holga Shots. I was tempted to put some more colour film I have through it today but decided to wait to see the results from the other two films.
