Panic Buying

One thing I've noticed is that a certain type of person becomes obsessed about demanding "satisfaction" when a seller makes a mistake. Sometimes you just need to decide if the mistake really does cause you a problem before exploding.

Fortunately 'demanding satisfaction' doesn't have quite the same connotations as it did in the C18th and C19th! :)

Tried a few of the delivery services and so far Sainsburys have been the best with the least substitutions
Waitrose and Morrisons the worst mainly because they take stock from shops rather than a warehouse
Waitrose are especially bad because the shop they use is always badly stocked even in pre virus days
Ocado who I have used for years were mediocre as ever, usual things such as bread looking like it had been sat on
They are undoubtedly the most careless, always having stuff delivered dented or leaking.

Never use Tesco, not keen on their range of goods so not much point

@AndrewFlannigan i certainly haven't exploded, but having not used Iceland before, their email noted a substitution and it didn't include this particular product (only strawberries - which i might add, were very very good! perfect colour, shape and taste, it was like i was in The Matrix!) so it does seem like an unexpected error on their part and the contact I made was polite to seek advice on it.

Slightly connected to that - Companies are always doing feedback surveys, in which if you dont choose 'highly satisifed' they want you to explain yourself - like, i went in for a roll, got a roll - it wasn't an enlightened experience :)

the reply from iceland was apologetic and as they said it was an unexpected substitution (still not sure they got what i was saying, i.e the sub wasnt mentioned and they dont stock that product) they are going to refund the cost of it. i've not had it back on my card as yet but if all goes thru - i'm happy with that and a thumbs up for the iceland experience.

Lot of queues yesterday, 2.5-hour queues at sports direct

I had been thinking of venturing to b&m and home bargains for 1st time in months but picked a bad week to cnsider that seeing as the rest of the shops on the retail park wil have just opened (including sports direct) so it will be mental over there. should have gone when they were the only ones open! i guess i'll wait a couple of weeks....

many months ago i also wanted to go to sports direct but it was to get walking trousers for holiday i was meant to be on now in iceland :-(

the outdoor market near work (im working from home now) has now opened so i may take a trip over there as they had great cherries for a great price the last couple of years - armed with face mask and perhaps a sign to hold that says "1kg of cherries please, STAT"

I got my cherries at the local market - one way system around the stall, but small so no real way to social distance. I was wearing a mask, no stall holders were and only 1 or 2 other people....... won't be going back for a couple of weeks as the price is still high til we're a bit further into the season. May be braving B&M and Home Bargains later in the week.

had another iceland delivery today - 11am - 1pm - it arrived about 10:20am, in a non iceland van, in non iceland bags and a non iceland delivery drivers - looks like thety are roping in help which is surpising as i didnt think they were as busy given how easy it is to get a lot. is there a driver in a ditch somewhere having been mugged of his delivery lol.

no subs or out of stock items. apart from the weird delivery, happy again with their service overall.

Click & collect all the way for us & our family. Our Sainsburys even have bread flour and dried yeast in stock after months without.

The only issues we have had recently were the occasional item with short dates on them. Sainsburys guarantee at least 48 hours 'pantry life' , anything delivered with less than that & you can get a full refund (voucher) & keep the item. We have had some 'free' turkey mince and a meat pie delivered with only 1 day use by date, they both went straight into the freezer until we were ready to eat them.

For us, C & C slots are a lot easier to get than delivery slots , however both beat the queue at the store.

I'm getting a bit worried here, I'm on the last "roll" of a six pack that I bought well before the lock down ...
I hope there will be something on the shelves when I need to shop in a couple of days ...

Used to be able to use twenties but they're now more Izal than Andrex... Got a trained labrador puppy?

And your fingers are unlikely to go through! Imagine "Churchilling" yourself "below the belt" though...

I'd stick with the puppies!

Went to the local, very quiet Asda (apart from the headless chicken staff) and they looked as though they were fully stocked with it.

Another thumbs up from me for Iceland online. We are using them for an online delivery each week and then do one shop at Asda for meat, flour and the holy grail - yeast. They have only subbed two items, two bottles of Cotes du Rhone which were a lot better than the one on their site.

I popped into a local Tesco express on the way home from work, there's a barbers opposite, the other side of the road
about 8 people queuing, up the road, plus what appeared to be a family of 3, Tesco, all but empty ( of people)result (y)

Just buy some clippers :)

Bog roll first though...

If it's the posh stuff (2 + plies), you could turn it inside out too...

I say again, trained Labrador puppies is the way forward. (Or backward - for hygiene reasons...)

Not according that TV programme (... factory ... ? ) which said the inner layers are different from the outer. From memory, the inner layers are strong long fibre and the outer are short absorbent fibre, different woods.

You possibly jest but actually Basenjis do it naturally and are/were used for that in Africa, though no-one seems to want to mention it :(,

Although the joke goes that the bear chose the bunny because the s*** DIDN'T stick to its fur - better if it does IME!!!

Does it really matter? speaking as one that remembers Izal in the school bogs :D

But Basenjis are supermarket own brand and Labradors are Andrex!

Dad's mother used to have Izal and used it for letters of complaint as well as its intended use (unused, just in case you were wondering!!!)
