The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

ABSOLUTELY BAFFLED

I’m absolutely baffled as to the way “Flickr Explore” works. For ages I’d had nothing selected for Explore and then all of a sudden I’ve had Five snaps including todays selected in less than two weeks. Yes of coarse I’m pleased but still baffled as to how or why.

George.

Cuz you are a nice chap :)

Nice. Think it can replace your 35mm art?
The lenses themselves are really well made, nice materials. Id go as far to say the build is better than a lot of expensive 1st party stuff Ive used. Hood, nicest made hood and mechanism Ive ever used.

AF is fast, Im surprised how fast it is. Need to check CAF with moving stuff but SAF is very fast.

Will it replace the 35 ART? Hmmm, Ive not used it enough to know yet. Will have to wait and see.

Hats off to Viltrox for stepping up and providing some alternatives to the pricey 1st party stuff. I'd have not problem using the 23 and 33,but would probably still go with the 90mm over 85

The mounting on the xpro3 does concern me though. How do we know it won’t be a problem on future cameras and then all of a sudden in a few years time the lenses are only compatible with older cameras?

I know it’s only cosmetic, but poor Dave’s experience on here recently shows how difficult shifting ‘damaged’ gear can be.

They have resolved the rub issue with the mkii.

1st shot from the 23mm 1.4, so far so good. Its a full size jpeg from RAW with a slight crop, only thing I did was apply Provia profile to RAW in LR.

ISO 160 / F1.4

Very nice, beautiful Kitty :)

How's the hood on your 85? I seen people moan about theirs being loose or too tight and not 'snapping' on properly - I've had no such issues with mine. Fits like any hood for any other lens really, clicks into place and stays put, both standard and reversed.

I've not used the 90mm so can't personally compare, but some reviewers reckoned the Viltrox 85 had the better build and post FW update, was just as fast AF-wise. There's a mkII version of it that's about 150g lighter too. I mean, I'd probably choose the 90 too, but I'm not going to find it anywhere for £168 delivered to Ireland so I'm not gonna complain either way :D If it's even just very close to this was a right bargain.

That's a crazy price. Definitely a good way into fuji. Get some more portrait shots up with it! :)

I've just looked on Amazon and they are silly prices. £300 for the 23mm f1.4. That's less than the price of a used Fuji unit.

Should add that that price was from a fb seller, they are open box, possibly test units, mine came with latest fw pre installed, but otherwise basically as you'd find a new one. It's pot luck when the guy has them.

Portraits aren't really my thing these days but actually have planned to take some of a 95yr old lady, my partners nan who's still on the go :) the kid's great gran of course which is a privilege for them to still have, pretty rare even today.

I have taken some of the girls but trying to gt them to pose for anything outside of casual snaps is a bit of a chore. I can see even from those the lens is pretty sweet though.

If you got it for Sony you can convert it to an f/1.6,physically not just some digi fw. I think this might go a ways to explain why its already decent at 1.8

I'm on the lookout for wide and tele converters for the X100 series. Dont mind mk 1 or 2 but would prefer black. Is anyone thinking of moving theirs on?

If you struggle getting them Graham, Fuji have the wcl-70 on sale for £75, silver though. Works on my f and v but you have to remember to turn the setting on in camera, I just add the setting to my menu. Don't know if the magnet trick works with this lens.

The hood on the 85 isnt amazing. Not so much the plastic which is okay but the mechanism, it goes on okay and clicks reversed but forward its a bit trickier to click into place, I wont use it anyway, without the hood it feels a better size for the little XT3. The 23/33 hoods are soooo much nicer.

Ive now updated all the lenses FW (very easy, connect USB to lens, copy file to root, done, other manufacturers could learn from this method), AF seems to lock quickly on all of them, 23 being the fastest.

Don't know if it's gone to everyone but this is a code for 60% off fuji capture one single user license, no monthly plan fee. Comes to about £51

A4N7MFUKAC

Think it works for the other brands too.

Has anyone changed their eye cup to the XTL or GFX50 cup? I need to get a new one, the JJC XTL looks cheap but wont buy it if its rubbish.

Also, is there an easy way to punch into the point of focus when previewing images on the LCD?

Thanks!

Holy moly. Thanks for this, been holding off till my trial expires but have jumped on this.

Confirmed that it works.

Looking forward to trying these out... :D

I’ve recently bought the 23mm but as yet been unable to get out and play with it. Viltrox have knocked it out of the park with their Fuji lens, a no brainier for the likes of me on a tight budget.
I was stunned at the build quality. I’m hoping they will bring out something to match the 50-140

You'll find that once you've trialled/paid for it they'll keep emailing codes for you to buy it.

Glad it helped anyway, it's a better % code than when I bought it (y)
