I've been past the same bench a few times but this time spotted four likely volunteers to update the picture.
The top one is from 30 years ago on Ektarchrome 64 and the bottom one two weeks ago on Fujicolour 200.

Is that definitely the same location? Those background trees look very different - some look like different species.

Well spotted.
It's the bench to the right of the original.
Also a bit from above as my knees aren't what they used to be
