Hi
I would be grateful for a bit of help please.
For a variety of reasons I am considering changing from an Android Phone to an IPhone and in particular the SE 2020 128 gb version.
Reading reviews they range from the greatest thing since sliced bread to the biggest load of c**p imaginable ( Ok slight exaggeration mainly down to battery life playing games and not having a camera the equivalent of a Hassleblad incorporating photoshop).
For information , I don't use my phone for serious photography , I don't play games or watch video / Tv on my phone nor do I use any form of social media so I am not posting selfies etc on Facebook and similar platforms. I use it as a communication tool , phone calls , texts internet ,banking ,spreadsheets ,maps, fitness tracking etc.
I would appreciate comments from anyone who has real world experience of one of these phones so I can come to a balanced decision

Thanks in advance

A friend of mine has one of these - same model, same size storage. But she does use hers for social media quite a bit when she's out. So she carries a single-recharge power pack which doesn't weigh much or take much space, and has to use it now and again. But for what you want it for, provided that it doesn't suck battery trying to get a signal, you should be fine. If you have an Apple Watch (or another kind) it will use up a little more battery communicating with the phone. And you can turn on Low Power Mode or switch mobile data or Wifi off from the Control Centre. Dark Mode will also use less battery. And in the Battery settings, you can find out what's hitting it hard and limit its ability to download data in the background.

But as I say, I think you should be able to get through the day if the battery is around 100% first thing, and only need a top up if you use it more than usual.

Oh, and the first few days after you've got it, you'll hit the battery quite a bit setting the phone up, changing the settings, downloading, installing, and setting up apps, and so on. Once you've settled down the battery life will increase, and once the phone calibrates the battery, you should get even better usage. But you'll already know this as it's the same with Android phones.

The SE 2020 is a great phone and if I didn't already have an iPhone XS, I'd consider getting one.

i had an iphone 8 for 2-3 months. i wanted to throw it out of the window but luckily someone bought it before i did.

back to androids for me iphone/iOS just isn't user friendly.

It’s all down to the individual isn’t it. I’ve always had iPhones and find them incredibly user friendly. My work phone is a Samsung Galaxy Note 8, which I hate with a passion.

I got one about 4 weeks ago, I like it :) I traded in my old 6s plus so got some money off, and I prefer the smaller size. The chip is the same as the iPhone 11 Pro so is plenty quick enough and the camera is from the 11 too, albeit without the wide angle lens. The camera doesn’t do the low depth of field effect as well but it’s fine for people. Battery has been fine, I probably have a similar use to you except I use a little social media and it’s always lasted the day so far, normally ending the day on 30-40%.

I needed a new phone as my old one was really slowing down, battery was heading south so decided on this, it ended up costing me about half what an 11 would and I’m happy with the decision. That said it might not be for everybody if those people wanted all the latest developments ie face recognition, additional cameras etc.

I've wondered about the SE for next phone because of the size, but if battery life is as poor as suggested above then it's shockingly bad for a recent design. With this 2 year old phone I still get a full day when absolutely hammering it.

may be it is down to the individual but it annoyed me to no end... starting from the time i woke up lol

if you wake up before you alarm rings you cannot turn it off or dismiss it preemptively. you either have to turn off the entire repeating series or wait for it to go off then turn it off!
then god forbid if you wish to wake up at a different time one day you cannot once again turn off your repeating alarm for just that day, you have to turn off the entire series and remember to turn it back on again.

then there is the hotspot... to get it to work you need to turn on everything inc. bluetooth and wifi for whatever reason! then to turn it off you have to go through the settings once again turning them all off. the quick menu only disables it for 24 hours (whoever thought that was good idea!)

then the notifications.... don't even get me started on that :p

/rant

I could rant for an entire day about why the iOS/iphones sucks.....
Would rather buy an old nokia brick. its less annoying, I at least won't have the expectation of it being smart.

Just in case you still have or need to use one again in the future there is a quick access option to turn hotspot on which takes 2 seconds. You can swipe up from the bottom, hold your finger on the top left square where wifi/bluetooth etc are and it expands so you can toggle hotspot on and off. I use it all the time so that little shortcut saves plenty of time :D

You can also set individual wake up times for certain days using the sleep option, I hadn't noticed the option to pre-emptively turn off the alarm as that has never happened to me :LOL::LOL:

sure but there is still the issue that you cannot quickly turn off bluetooth and/or wifi from the swipe up menu. it only disables it for 24 hours. you need these on for some odd reason to get your hot spot to work. i am glad it doesn't ask me to do a hotspot dance too on top :p

I never have bluetooth turned on and hotspot works :)

There's no issue arguing though, i don't think I'm going to convert you :D Do you have an android phone? I find most people like one kind and dislikes the other! I can generally get along with android but just choose not to, not through any great annoyance I just prefer using iOS on mobile devices, I really don't get along well with OSX

I have an android phone yes, had iphone 8 for a little while as i said above. its not about converting... just that it doesn't work for me anyway.
my missus still uses the old iphone SE. we were looking at buying the new one for her. she prefers small phones. may be if there are battery issues and older iphone 8 might be better, i don't know yet.

I have many apple computers :D
my main is an iMac (in sales atm) and have two 13 inch macbook pros (2013 one and a 2019 one)
Just because i use macs i could mostly also use windows with little issue. in fact i am selling my imac to fund a new windows based PC. I have enough macs in my life :D

my mum recently bought the iphone 11 pro or plus or whatever the bigger ones are called. no headphone jack on it!! that'd annoy me to no end

I have an android mobile.
I use an iPhone and ipad for work.
I have a macbook for exiting pics etc.

I like the macbook and ipad etc, but prefer android for my phone....

don't really have use for tablets in general. i had one, used it for like a week and never touched it.

also been advised by doctors not to use phones and tablets in general now because of my back/neck issue. so might as well buy a brick phone now :ROFLMAO:

i used enough iphone models to know it will be much like ever other iphone ever made, they are very consistent and dont like to rock the boat at all.

very intuitive, east to learn and simple.

their weakness is for the same money they are less advanced than android, cant change the battery easily and cant add memory.
also they are funny about what file types and that kind of thing can be used on it, android are more flexible

Maybe because some users have non-cellular Apple Watch which would rely on a Bluetooth connection for all functionality.
