Dog Appreciation Thread, post your fave dog shots here...

I have 6 dogs one male Cocker and four females ( I breed the Working Cockers) and the Mali The Cockers are working type and are as mad as hatters The Mali is only 6 months old and already make them look like old codgers.
I have always had German Shepherds in the past but lost my last one just before lock down. He is much like a Shepherd but much more agile and extremely intelligent plus very loyal, he has endless energy and no off button. He can jump from standing to about 6 foot.

I have heard reports that there are a lot of them in rescue due to their high energy levels, they do need an experienced very active dog owner ,in the same way thatWorking Collie owners think they could handle a Kelpie A lot of big dog owners think they can handle a Mali, I'm very active and have to admit I'm struggling. If I have him outside and leave him for more than 5 minutes in his Kennel and run area ( kennel 8x 5 and run 25x6 foot) he will begin to run one end to the other nearly clearing each 8 foot wall just for fun and the amount of things he has destroyed is amazing.I would seriously say don't have one unless you intend to work him/her every day as part of your job job.

Yep I am experienced after two GSD and Indi was the most prey driven one ever!

Is the Mali friendly to others etc when out and about?

He is a bit over friendly and bounds up to people at full pelt so I have to be careful, He does stop if I call him. When he is on our property it's a different story though. I presently do about 5 miles or so with him and the others after work. But I am lucky because I start and finish early so still have plenty of light. He's eating about 6lb of meat mixed with either Porridge, pasta, cuss cuss mixed veg, eggs and bone meal. He has been bit a few times by our other dogs because he is so full on and loves to bite. Today while I've been at work he has ripped off a wooden cover I put over the waste pipes because one of the Cocker when younger kept pulling the pipes off and ripped the pipe off !

This is somewhat off topic, but an interesting site where you can see the world as a dog does by taking or uploading a photo. Not much use to me, being red/green coluor blind like them so I already see it as they do* :( :

*actually I’m not as r/g blind really :).

So sorry for your loss Howard, never an easy time losing a dog, im sure you have some wonderful memories of her

Sorry to be so late replying - no excuse really - I hadn't noticed this. However, thank you very much for your kind remarks. It was a very sad time for us, although she had been with is for only five and a half years she had been our youngest son's dog before that. She was a lovely natured dog, never complained, she was so stoic right up to the end. We have and will always have very fond and happy memories.

Hi, in memoriam Sheila + ... I took this pic in 2003. We had just bought her from a breeder, who had stopped breeding.

We went on holiday with her to the Ile de Re/F. She got used to us very quickly and loved the SUBARU Forester, her new hut ... --- :

My late Fell Terrier Rufus in 2011 aged 10 not sharing his bone with my Black Rosecombs. Your Dino has a longer coat but otherwise very similar to Rufus when older:

Love the shot, Richard.

Interesting reaction of your dog to birds. Ours would chase anything small and furry, given the chance(in the garden this morning he was within a few inches of making a squirrel's life a bit shorter) but he shows no interest in chasing birds. During the early morning walk he will now and again run at crows but it is a fairly half-hearted lunge, whereas the sight of a cat, squirrel, rat, fox and it would be full on, if it were not for the extender lead.

Rufus was from a long line of working fell terriers and his mother & grandmother I know were complete nutcases. He would kill anything furry (or spiny unfortunately), would go over any fence after cats and up trees after cats until he fell out and then tried again until I could catch him up. He grew up from 6 weeks with my poultry and was completely bomb proof with them and they knew that as you can see in the snap. If he was running down the garden hell for leather after a squirrel he would swerve around the flock of banties if they were in his path and they ignored him. My other dog at the time (in my avatar) also wouldn’t harm banties but in the same circumstances he would run as close as possible to them to ’see them scatter’ :) and would stalk and kill wood pigeons, interesting contrast because Rufus was safe with any bird so he generalised whereas Pippin did not.

I also have just lost my GSD 2 weeks ago. She had a perforated Spleen (don't know how) & it had contaminated her body - totally inoperable...
Was given max 3 weeks so we made the decision to put her down the next day.

Did a quick PS with the kids that night

& the wife got to do a final walk with her an hour before.

My respect, Pete, you did what was best for your dog to keep her from suffering. - But I know, it must have been difficult ... ---

So sorry for your loss, I feel for you as we lost ours about six weeks ago. You have some lovely photos to remember her by.
