WBMT.....What baffled me today

I was given a lift to work one day which involved the road through Cusgarne in Cornwall. There were riders ahead of us going the same way as us. My friend drove up behind the horses and when he was about six feet from them leant heavily on his horn. The poor horses nearly jumped off their shoes. Said friend commented that he liked to warn the horses so that he didn't startle them.

Blimey,John..That's awful. :( I'm not too knowledgeable about horses but I'd imagine hearing a car horn could make a horse bolt.

I was screamed at once by two women, on on-coming horse to stop, while driving down a fairly wide country lane in a 16 tonne truck, I'd seen them, and was rolling at a snails pace.
as they drew level it was f*****g stop you c*** ... you could tell they were gentry (y)
I said your'll be sorry but I will.

We all know what happens when you apply the brakes in a lorry ..
A sudden hiss of air....
Allegedly horses hate it as it sounds like a snake.
It took them both awhile to get the horses back under control, and this is what I was trying to avoid. You cant help some people

Oh dear. Not good. They are the exception,I'm sure. I've never had anything other than a wave.

Certainly one that's a novice on the roads.

What are EV drivers supposed to do when they come up behind horses being ridden side by side? At low speeds, we're all but silent. Annoyingly, there's a good bridle way that runs parallel with the road but the riding school like to use the road and (even more annoyingly) the footpaths.

This was in Buckinghamshire, we get a better class of arseholes here (y)

Acoustic Vehicle Alerting Systems (AVAS) is the answer to the quiet EV sneaking up on horses & pedestrians. According to the Autocar link below, AVAS has been compulsory on all new types of electric and hybrid vehicles since 1 July 2019, and it will be required on all hybrid or electric vehicles sold from 1 July 2021 onwards.

The noise isn't that loud on the electric Corsa I have. Can barely hear it. One on the Zoe was very noticeable. Folk turned around. Now they don't. If I were an assassin I could pick pedestrians off in droves.

I know. We have a Leaf. It's all but inaudible though (in fact, it's completely inaudible to me unless I have my hearing aids in) and the horse riders tend to be flapping their jaws rather than paying attention to the real world around them.

A strange anomaly in UK law means that the warning has to be switchable so it doesn't sound between 23:30 and 07:00.

People driving in thick "Daylight" fog that seem to think because headlights don't help them see they are not required.
Especially superior German cars, in black, doing mach 3 in the outside lane of a dual carriageway

Or people that go faster than 30mph then get scared and slam on the brakes, on a long straight bit

Is milk the new bog roll? Just tried adding some to next week's Ocado order and they're out of stock, unless you want the (rather expensive) organic version.

(rather expensive) organic version.
That's because it takes so long to milk the almonds or coconuts unfortunately

:D

I get your point but I'm talking about organic cow's milk.;)
Well I suppose if cows eat grass it must be organic :D

Within the last month a 2.5 mile stretch of road has opened after been turned into dual carriageway.
2.5 years to complete at a cost of 30 million ££.

Over the week-end they have reduced the Northbound side to a single carriageway.
Today there was a "digger" half way along digging up a few feet of the grass verge .

Perhaps someone has lost a ferret? :)

Wife: Let’s open the windows to let some fresh air in

Also wife: Why’s it so cold in here? I could freeze to death.

I know the feeling SWMBO insists on having the windows open every morning to air the house even in the depths of winter, I have tried to explain that heating the house is within our means but heating the world is not. Even after lunch which is the time she deems that the windows can be closed the bathroom and kitchen windows are left open as they don't count as windows, I know who knew.

Ah so you are the one responsible for global warming ...
:D

Now I don't want to start an argument but in both cases so far it seems that the female (are you even allowed to say that anymore) of the species is the one responsible, so no not me but SWMBO.

WBMT? (unusually) Amazon ...

I'm pretty sure that when asked to designate a safe place, I didn't
designate my front door step in the very damp all encompassing fog...

I have checked since and it seems that option isn't there anyway .. Baffling ...

If it was all encompassing fog, they probably couldn't see where they left it. Consider yourself lucky it made it to the right address. :)

On one of our daily walks yesterday we saw a parcel left on the doorstep of two houses. I assume they werea retail deliverires and not left by a friend.

I imagine it would be quite lucrative following along behind a Hermes driver and collecting stuff that they leave on people's doorsteps.

One of the reasons I'm glad we live at the end of a cul-de-sac (off a cul-de-sac).

Same here, plus our driveway is quite long and curved so the front doorstep is not obvious from the road, plus the house is surrounded by CCTV cameras. It's easy to check when a delivery firm claims to have attempted delivery to our door.

I live on "your average" estate, thankfully its fairly quite around these parts, and its not really somewhere you come just to pass through, as its very much a large crescent, but that doesn't account for "tradesmen" or other delivery guys ;)

Apparently in some parts of America this is a significant issue for Amazon.

I once came home to find the dustbin in front of the front door which was a bit odd I thought. Behind it was a small parcel, the delivery person had dragged the bin from the side of the house to the front door to "hide" the parcel, because obviously we keep the dustbin right in front of the front door.

I mean there wasn't any other option such as leaving the parcel round the side of the house and put a card through the door?

When I had my ex-military Canvas topped 'air portable' landrover parked round the side of the house I would regularly find parcels shoved inside as the delivery driver would just untie the canvas tilt & drop them in.

WBMT and for the last 2 days. We had our Ocado delivery on Tuesday and usually, the money comes out of our account as the driver gets back into their van.

2 days later, and they still haven't taken payment.
