Wow, used lens on ebay

Where did they store it, in a compost bin?

Nothing a can of Matt black spray paint from Poundland won’t cure

I do think they might not be as bad as they look it's almost like some kind of oxidation or surface degradation of the paint.
But they aren't dirt cheap either.

They didn't include any photos of the glass!
Try scrolling over to look at the very last 3 images. Not great shots but the glass actually looks surprisingly clear.
It seems most of the used examples on e-bay sell for £300+ so the price isn't so bad either, - as long as you look through the lens & not at it!

Mind you an example in another mount that appears to be in much better condition has sold for significantly less, so with patience a better bargain can be had.

I had one of those 30mm f1.4's in Canon mount and it was a good lens. The focus ring felt horrible though, sort of gritty and then you hit a firmer thing that rotated with the ring. If you can follow that. I think they were all the same as I tried another in a local camera shop (we had them back then) and it was the same.

I remember the guy in the shop telling me about someone who brought theirs back as all their pictures were soft but it was user error as they'd been shooting everything at f1.4 but expecting the whole scene to be sharp :D

I bought a sigma lens once and the black rubberised material that they use looked like that.
I used something like back to black and it came up as new.
The glass was perfect, but the lens looked really shabby beforehand...
At least they're offering a warranty.
I do wonder though why they don't clean them up before putting them up for sale...
MPB have the same lens that looks in much better condition but its £40 more.
Probably won't work any better though....

I had both the 10-20mm and the 17-35mm Sigma zooms. The cosmetics were no problem but they both developed the same strange optical problem over time: with one side of the frame not quite focussing correctly. What was even odder was that in neither case did it occur consistently. Several shots would be OK then one, rarely two in a row, would exhibit the problem, I never did get to the bottom of it and gave up trying.

Frustratingly, when they worked right they were good lenses.

You would think they would clean it before putting it up for sale. That wouldn't fill me full of confidence for any other kind of 'care' from them.
