Yes
Have just bought Mrs J a new laptop with Windows 10, and I'm trying to set up her email.

I select the Gmail option, enter her details, but it keeps falling over at this stage, telling me there is an error. The username & passwords are correct as I can sign into the web portal and read mail from there. It's becoming a real PITA now as I can't find out how to enter all the information manually either.

Now I remember why I love Macs...

Which application are you using? Also can you share a screenshot of the error

Do you use 2FA of so I think you need to create a special single use password don't you. I think.

Give it time...you will love windows 10.

I am a convert back to the fold.

Steve, I just don't understand why it suddenly worked at the 3rd attempt this morning, when I tried a number of times yesterday as well. I hadn't done anything different.

I also managed to get the M365 subscription (with apps) on it as well, but that wasn't that straightforward either.

I had this with a Gmail - took two goes.

I prefer Mozilla Thunderbird for Mail anyway so changed my default mail client to that.

Word of warning if you are using the microsoft mail that comes installed with windows 10, it doesn't save sent items !!!

It does save some. Not sure why but mine doesn't save anything I send from my ? @ live . com but does save mails sent from my gmail accounts.

Mine doesn't save anything, so important stuff I add myself to the list of recipitants

It saves everything I have, and I have my company email on there, an outlook one and a Gmail one.

I sympathise: I use macs now ( and win7 for engineering stuff ) but I have to maintain my wife’s win10 laptop.
I have had problems on both platforms with various mail programmes but not ( yet ) with gmail. I tend to use outlook on my win 7 machines along with gmail and ms live mail.

IOS was not talking to exchange for the last two days - suddenly it is working again - who knows why but these things happen.

I normally use Outlook but after reading this, set up Windows mail with my alternative Gmail account.
It worked immediately in fact I'm quite impressed I might keep gmail on there.
All that's needed is correctly typed gmail address and google password for that account.
In Outlook you might need to delve into all kinds of advanced settings to get it working properly.

I wonder if after registering you have to wait for the E Mail address to be approved, it is a known way if fraud prevention.
