I was going to take my little compact on my morning walk, but opted for the D90 and 28-300mm instead, and glad I did.

Spotted this lovely Cortina on the expressway, managed to grab a very quick photo, before he disappeared. It was moving pretty fast for an old car.

B reg would make it about 1964, or somewhere about that year.

Going on the lower stance and the "off set" wider wheels I suspect it's not quite what it used to be ;)

He was really moving, it did not sound like a standard engine, from what I could hear.

The great thing about those old Fords is that you can "pick & mix" the running gear on them. I had a 1300GT Escourt, that had a 1600GT lump from a Capri, with Powermax pistons & rings, but the original 1300 head to up the compression with larger vales. It also had a gearbox form a 2000E Mk3 Cortina. It also had the diff from an Escort Mexico.

Oh my, it was quick off the line, up to about 70 where most other fast cars would take it. `it was always good for the traffic light GP though . If only cars were still that simple to work on....

One of these was the last car my Grandad bought - have an old shot of him posing proudly with it somewhere, about 1967.

I have no time for modern cars, but plenty of time for real cars. :)

I had the chance to buy a Cortina mk 1 back in the 1980s, it was advertised at £999 and it was immaculate condition, with one elderly owner.
I was such an idiot, I opted for a more modern car for a few hundred quid, that car did not last. :(

I love modern cars Jon, the comfort, the ease of driving, especially the power that you get in a modern car of similar engine size (and the economy). But they are just a bitch to work on these days, and most things are controlled via computer.

As an 18 year old teenager the Mk1 Loutus Cortina was my lust object.

I have changed the title of the thread, so I can add more cars. Otherwise I will be making loads of threads, for all sorts of cars.

I spotted these lovely old Austin...

Just a shame they are never parked up when I see them, as I would love to have chat to the owner, provided they were sociable, and lockdown had ended. :)
