The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I have a birthday coming up!

I wouldn't ask Mrs WW to spend the sort of money photography gear costs so what could I buy myself?

I don't want a new camera apart from a compact but I can't find one I'm happy with and to be honest no new lens is grabbing me at the mo. I have way too many film era lenses and I can't see anything to add to my little Voigtlander family although swapping the 40mm f1.2 for either a 35 or a 50mm f1.2 could be an option but I already have the 35mm f1.4 and 50mm f2. AF wise I have the 35mm f2.8, 20, 35, 55 and 85mm f1.8's and 28mm f2, I can't think of anything to add as I don't want the larger f1.4's or f1.2's. The new compact Sony lenses are sort of interesting but I already have the 35mm f2.8 which is very small. The Sigma 35mm f2 is interesting but I have the Sony 35mm f1.8. Bag wise I have to Billinghams I hardly use and I have my Benbo tripod I hardly ever use.

I might buy a watch.

It's the FE 28mm f2 lens, just found the Fish eye converter too :D

That's imo quite a nice lens. It doesn't always get the best reviews but it is relatively small and light, sharp and fast to focus even on my A7.

I see the 28mm is up for sale but are you keeping the adapter?

Things that ARE going are Fish eye converter, Sigma 16mm f1.4 and Sony FE 24-105mm, might let the Sony 6400 go to but can't find the box.

I think i'm set in getting the sony 35mm f1.8. So you could sell me yours to make space for the sigma 35mmf2.

No but seriously why do you think the sigma f2 would be better?

Can’t go wrong with drugs and prostitutes(y)

Anyone do a firmware update on a tamron lens? I guessing it’s quite similar to a firmware update on a Sony camera (attach camera to computer via usb)?

Yep exactly the same as updating any other Sony lens. Same with sigma lenses too.
Even the UI is the same, it's clearly licensed from Sony.

Speaking with a sigma rep part of the reason why they don't support RF/Z yet is because of the firmware update logistics not being worked out yet.
They'd have to make a dock specially for RF/Z versions. Adds extra costs and overhead to both sigma and the customers.
Plus reverse engineering never stops as canon and Nikon themselves update and make subtle changes.
With Sony they don't have any of that to work out, in fact he said they might even have early access to any changes so their lenses aren't impacted.

I expect it's swings and roundabouts. I have the Sony so it really wouldn't be worth me swapping but anyone looking to buy either might end up flipping a coin.

There's a couple of thread on Fred Miranda that might be worth wading through and I think they compare the Sigma 35mm f2 to the Sony 35mm f1.8 in there somewhere...

PS.
The Sony has a nice close focus distance so that could swing the balance.

They're coconut buns and they're lovely! I ate two :D

I'm thinking about advertising some of my film era primes so I thought I'd check evil bay and see what similar lenses have sold for. Prices can be all over the place but overall... WoW! Prices sure have risen. That doesn't mean I'll get those prices if I advertise here but prices old stuff is going for does seem to have gone up recently, I assume because Canikon have entered the mirrorless market so more people can mount these lenses on modern cameras.

GLWTS :D

It's sunny with blue skies here but a bit cold. The car is clear but when I went to the bins which are in the shade both were frozen shut with thick ice still on top. Going out later! Yipee! :D

Price drop on my Mint FE24-105mm if some one wants a great deal in classified.

Wow, that looks incredibly cheap. I think your dropping the price too low. Just wait a bit and sell on ebay! I just sold 3 items with £0 ebay fee and no paypal fee as payment know go directly to your bank account! Just go to ebay, go to the selling tap and see if you have any offer in there.

At the moment the lens is in it's case and in the draw, but for the price a lens in this condition will not be any cheaper. Sadly I don't use Ebay anymore.

I took some shots to compare Leica 35mm 1.4 FLE to the 35 GM - both on the A1

First shot Leica, then GM, then a quick edit with the GM with lowered contrast and slight green added to midtones.

I'm really looking for an excuse to sell off my Leica and buy a 400mm 2.8 :D

GM seems to have a tad more DoF and a tad more contrast.
Think I almost prefer the Leica one

Morning Guys,

Can I ask those that have the 200-600mm 2 questions,

Firstly, what sort of Camo Lens Cover do you have? If you indeed use it? and secondly, is the 1.4x t/c worth it given the cost?
