Darkslinger's 52 Week Challenge - 2021

Certainly fits the technique. I expect it’s a smooth taste although the surface doesn’t look very smooth. It looks tasty though.

Looking at the thumbnail, I thought the rings above were steam rising [emoji4]
Thanks Bebop, it's hot chocolate with foam on top. It doesn't look that smooth but it is...

The rings from a metal container for utensils. I liked the reflection in the background.

Smooth
Nice accent lighting sets the scene well

Alive
Nice shapes and curves, I do notice the red line at the left and wonder if moving to the left it could be hidden behind the adjacent tree

Works well Bill with a nice composition. The tree branches in the background look a little soft (intentional?) and I think I would have like to have seen them a bit sharper. Could be my eyes though as they get tired this time of day!

Thanks Stuart, yeah the lampposts in Chinatown are red but I was okay with it.

Thanks Ian, I think that I took this at f4.0 to keep my ISO down. I was okay with the softer background as long as my main focus (the Canada Goose) was sharp.

Nice composition and good reflection. I might have tried stopping down a bit further to make the background even softer.

Nice image, i'd also have tried to either get the background sharp or more out of focus, it seems a bit 'in the middle' to me.

How lovely to have geese in the middle of Vancouver. Although they are lovely trees, I do find the sky a bit bright, so I think I would have been tempted to crop the top off. The curves are nice too.

Easter, for me, is the break that heralds in Spring. It's my notice that I need to start paying attention to my tiny, little garden. It's all about Hyacinths, Daffodils, Cherry Blossoms and Grape Muscari...

Some nice spring iages there, my favourite is the first, the splash of pink/red among the purple of the grap hyacinths is really nice and striking, the DoF is good too.

Nice trio of pix - but you chose the right one :)

All good shots but definitely #1 for me - the lone pink among the purple really stands out.

Thanks Jim, it was the colour contrast that caught my eye

Thanks Dave.

Love the colours in the first one.
Thank you Bebop

#1 for me too, a very eye catching shot.
Thank you susie.

Spring is all about spring(s) :D

Excellent! I was thinking about doing springs after the brilliant "Spring Fever" short the MST3K team did "No Springs!!"

Great image that made me smile today (and sent me off down an MST3K rabbit hole!). Thanks Bill.

Someone had to do it :) Nicely done :)

I did wonder if someone might try a spring... I really like this composition with the reflections.

I'm thinking you probably have a lot of biros that won't work properly now

The flowers are a nice shot too. I like that you have captured the silkiness of the petals.

Thanks Ian, I maxed out on spring flowers for the Easter theme so thought that I'd go for something different.
I did waffle between the b&w and colour image though:

Nice spring shot!
Thanks Paul.

Better me than someone else!

Thanks Bebop. I was thinking the flowers might be to dark but I like shooting fading blooms that are past their prime.

What are "biros"? Clicker type pens?

Gosh I thought that was a very common word. I’m either showing my age or my location then [emoji4]

I’d say any ballpoint pen is a biro - could be a BIC stick type with no spring, or a clicker type with a spring like a Parker jotter,or any cheaper one. Actually Biro may have originally been a brand name, like Hoover.

Well I learn a little more every day

LOL, I don't think that it's age...more likely geographic differences. I don't think growing up that I ever heard the term in Canada. So maybe it's a more common term in the UK then in the land of the maple leaf?

It did cross my mind that someone might go down this route - well done on lateral thinking. The flower shot works well for me too but the springs bring a smile.

Easter
I like the first shot, the pink stands out well against the blues.

Spring
I do like all of the springs and their reflections.

Continuing with a shot of cut tulips, just a little different.

Yep - lovely mono job there ;)

As others have said, really nice tones in the image. It's a tiny bit cluttered for my liking, with just one flower head too many (the one front & centre). Looks like they're shot in-place though, so I'm guessing the wanton destruction wouldn't have been welcome.

Snappers choice
Great light on the flowers, it really draws the eye in. Good detail in the petals too.

Good work Bill, lovely tones in the flowers, a nice B&W conversion.
Thanks Iain, I appreciate the kind words.

Lovely tonality!
Thank you Paul.

Thnaks Dave.

Super shot of the tulips, I really like the mono choice, it really emphasises the different tones in the petals.
Thank you susie.

LOL, it's funny Ian, I sometimes get so caught up in my "vision" that I don't see all of the elements. These were potted tulips so I could have easily re-arranged them. You are right there is a little bit of composing that I could have done but all I could see was the flow and movement of the lines.

Lovely mono shot. I like the natural composition too.
Thank you Helen.
