Zeiss announces ZX1 full-frame compact camera

Similarly I'm a huge fan of the Sony RX1R even though I didn't think it was my type of camera, I get a huge amount of use out of it. I agree the ZX1 is too large but also I'm not keen on having a large amount of onboard memory with no expansion slot and having onboard editing is of no benefit...

    Sony A6000 owners thoughts ?

I had the same problem with the RX1 which uses a minimum shutter of 1/80 on auto iso which is too high for the 35mm focal length, I found the same advice to use manual mode which works perfectly as I stick it to 1/40 and carry on choosing the aperture as I would in aperture priority. The risk...

    ffordes break in..!

Wow, that list is huge...that's a huge amount of equipment stolen. I'm hoping they can recover from this as I'd be extremely worried the thieves return as there's so much expensive equipment there and at the edge of a small town they're pretty much in the middle of nowhere. They are my local...

    Mavic Pro

The post above is correct in that you can use the USB port underneath, if you want to use the USB cable at the side you need one like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kismaple-Mavic-Lightning-Cable-Lighntning/dp/B072JY9SQ1?th=1 You'll need to keep DJI Go for the Phantom 3 and then install DJI Go...

    Nikon D750

I think it's only two stops faster at the maximum setting so I do the same as you when I want really high shutter speeds and set a higher base ISO

    Nikon D750

I'm up in the Highlands, Alfie was born in September and when he was allowed out walking it's when we had all the snow in 2009 so he's always loved the cold even though it looks unpleasant for him to slide along the ice and stick his head in it:

    Nikon D750

I use auto iso as I find the implementation on the D750 is good since you can set the lower and upper limits plus you can choose if you want a lower or higher shutter speed.

    Nikon D750

It's a few months old now obviously but this is one of my favourite recent shots of Alfie flying through the snow that the D750 C-AF absolutely nailed:

That's the site I used to choose the card in the first place, it's the Kingston in second place. It definitely helps with emptying the buffer as my other card which has a decent write speed is painfully slow but it's still a small buffer.

    Nikon D750

Well one of the casualties of making excessive use of burst most is a heck of a lot of photos so I'm still trying to summon up the motivation to start digging through them but here's a quick couple: The first one is two of the Nurburgring Ring Taxis, an F-type Jaguar I was in and the...

    Nikon D750

I thought it was 95MB/s write but it's actually 80 although I chose it as it was one of the fastest cards in actual tests although it doesn't seem to affect the buffer size as slower cards are the same. I did try changing to 14 bit out of interest and it dropped the buffer from 13 to 11 which...

    Nikon D750

I was wondering that as well so I did double check I had it set to 12 bit as if it was 14-bit that would agree with the buffer sizes I've seen online but it's definitely 12-bit. It's a Kingston 95MB/s card which I know has a decent write speed as the Sony's accept it for 1000fps and 4K (they're...

    Nikon D750

I would be curious but I suspect the performance difference will be small even if it's in favour of two cards and I find it easier to manage having the files together on one card. I only use 12-bit but even with that it's only a 13 shot buffer.

Create animated map showing car route?

Thanks for the offer but I don't have After Effect and I'm sure I can find something commercial to do it. So far I've not summoned up the motivation to sort through all the photos yet.

Create animated map showing car route?

The Relive app mentioned above does something similar through Strava but I don't have it set up nor the the GPS track either.

Create animated map showing car route?

Dashware is a different type of tool for putting graphics onto a video, that's not what I'm looking to do.

    Nikon D750

The post above for the D500 says the opposite though if I'm reading it right, it shows 166 photos for raw and jpeg on a single card but only 145 for raw on one card and jpeg on the other, I assumed that meant it managed a few more shots using a single card. I generally only hit buffer issues...

    Sony RX1 thread

I've had a good chance to use the little RX1 and after being worried it was a waste of money I'm really impressed with it. I know it has a FF sensor but I have it in my head it's so small I keep thinking it's an RX100 with a fixed 35mm lens so it seems weird to be able to get proper shallow DoF...

    Nikon D750

Agreed, while technically the camera does need to process the raw data from the sensor to produce the jpeg it has dedicated hardware which is hugely optimised to be able to rapidly produce the jpeg. With the significantly reduced file size it means it can save the file quicker to the memory...

Create animated map showing car route?

I've been looking at some of the Google earth guides although it seems performance can be a bit inconsistent but think it's worth trying.

Create animated map showing car route?

I'm not wanting to just draw a straight line instead I want it to follow the road route which is complex and it's lengthy so I'm looking for software to generate that route from a a tcx file or similar.

Create animated map showing car route?

I'm looking to add an animated map which shows the route the car took over some distance which I can use with Sony Vegas Pro. Searches so far are pulling up tutorials which make simple animations which have fairly straight jumps from one location to another or smaller sites I can't find much...

    Feiyu a2000 issue

It sounds faulty to me although I only have experience with smaller gimbals but although I've heard of some of the Feiyu gimbals wearing out after a few months I've not heard of one malfunctioning when new.

    Sony RX1 thread

Thanks for the response and I have been wondering how tough the camera is on its own as it does feel well built, it's mostly going to be in another backpack although it's amongst bike tools which potentially could damage it. I PM'd Cullinade above as he seemed to have similar usage to me and...

    Sony RX1 thread

I wasn't sure whether to bump this old thread or to start a new one but here we go. I've just picked up an RX1r and trying to find a suitable case for it which I've found some threads for on DPR but many of the recommendations are for US brands not available here or the cases aren't available...

    Sony E Series lenses

I'd say it comes down to size vs quality as the 18-55mm is optically better but larger while the 16-50mm is very compact but its IQ isn't as good and it's reliant on digital corrections to resolve some of its optical issues. In general the 18-55mm is the preferred lens and the 16-50mm is...

High-end bridge cameras: Sony RX10, Panasonic FZ1000 etc

I'm curious, is there anyone who had an RX10mk2 they weren't keen on then bought an RX10m3 or m4 they do like? The reason I ask is that I love my RX100mk4 and decided to add an RX10mk2 for more range as an all in one solution but I've ended up rarely using it instead favouring the...

    Sony RX100

Yes, although the mk3 has a wider aperture at the longer end - on the mk1 (and I assume the mk2) the aperture drops off very quickly so it's not quite as fast as the F1.8 aperture implies. From memory the mk1 has a non-BSI sensor and the mk 2 and mk3 have the same BSI sensor which is more...

The Amazing Sony A7 / A9 / Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

The D700 is the only full frame camera I have which of course is only 12MP as well, I might think differently if I'd used the newer 24MP/36MP FF sensors but 12MP on the D700 seems fine and I'm not seeing it as that much of disadvantage. John

The Amazing Sony A7 / A9 / Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Thanks, here's the link in case anyone is looking for it: http://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2014/07/01/the-sony-a7s-digital-camera-review-wow-period/ I was amazed by the moonlit video Sony produced to show off the A7s and there's been some impressive reviews as well, that article is a good read as...
