Switching from Canon to Fuji - Shall I or Shall I not?

I’m a Canon shooter through and through. My other half switched from canon to Fuji a couple of years ago. The upside was I “inherited” lots of lovely Canon lenses and other gear. The downside is that he rarely (if ever) picks up a camera these days. I rest my case .........

The GAS confessional - all who suffer are welcome. :)

I'm afraid I can't knock it. i'm suffering from a bit of GAS myself at the moment .... (see my thread in the Equipment section about a new 70-200 lens!!) ... I have a perfectly adequate Canon 70-300 which does a great job, but somehow the new 70-200 f2.8 is calling to me from out there in the...

Another “Which lens should I buy?” thread .....

Lol - yes. I knew someone who had the 300 f2.8 and it was a real monster with a lens cap the size of a saucepan lid!! Not one I’d want to lug round. I have a 24-105 f4 and use it for other things, but it hasn’t quite got the reach at the top end for my application. Primes don’t have the...

Another “Which lens should I buy?” thread .....

No issues at all with the 70-300 - it’s a great lens and I’ve used it loads. I just wondered if the faster apertures of the newer 70-200s might improve image quality at all. I’m generally shooting outdoors in daylight at sports events etc so no issues with light.

Another “Which lens should I buy?” thread .....

Putting price considerations aside for a moment, I have the opportunity to purchase one of the two new Canon 70-200 zooms: either the f2.8 or the f4. I really can’t decide. Please help me make a decision. For context, I will be using it mostly for shooting arena/pitch based events such as...

    Image titles for competition entry

Thank you for your input everyone. (Glad you like the picture - I'll get it printed and see how it looks ...) If this were a caption competition, it would be something like ... "Looks like Gladys has been at the gin again ..." :):) Onwards and upwards ...

    Image titles for competition entry

Thank you for your thoughts so far. I think the comment came from the fact that the judge in question had recently judged a comp that was purely for wildlife images and was seeing all sorts of quirky titles. I think he was quoting current thinking from the RPS (not a member, so can't comment)...

    Image titles for competition entry

Hello all .... I occasionally enter images in competitions run by my local camera club. I’ve been a member for a while now. At a recent event, another member entered a picture of some swans on a lake and gave it a quirky title (Drifting Along) as opposed to calling it Mute Swans at Windermere...

Client images on Facebook - opinions?

(Apologies for having to edit your lengthy quote fest ...... ) No I didn’t ignore you. I actually consistently agreed with yours and other pp’s views that good manners and good communication are important in any business relationship. But this isn’t about what I think. I sought to ask for...

Client images on Facebook - opinions?

Ok ... so having good manners is "old fashioned" then? ..... Fine: Thank you for that view Phil ... i'll bear that in mind. But just to clarify ... I'm not in any way arguing that a contractual arrangement between a service provider (in this case a photographer) and a client should not be...

What have you done with your camera today

Today, I have taken 204 pictures of the same horse just to get one with it looking even vaguely interested. This broke my previous "same horse" record of 165 .... It was a very nice horse, belonging to lovely people, so persistence payed off in the end.

    The Photographer's Ephemeris

Following with interest. Looked at it yesterday (for the iPad) an wondered if it was worth the £8.99 which seems a bit steep for an app. Might invest now ..... :)

    I've hit my photography dip

Some good advice here. I hit a bit of a wall and joined a local club in the hopes that it would give me some impetus. They have a programme of talks, practical sessions, tutorials and competitions which encourage and inspire, as well as providing some useful critique on my images. They also have...

Photoshop for beginners .... recommend a book please

Good idea. I do have an iPad, so that seems like the best approach. (I don't have room on my little desk for another monitor, but the iPad can sit in my lap). Had a little play already and getting quite excited at the prospects the new gear opens up. Thanks everyone for the input. ... :ty:

Photoshop for beginners .... recommend a book please

After much deliberation and hesitation, I am about to sink a tenner a month on an Adobe CC subscription. I am currently pp’ing on stand alone versions of PS Elements (v15) And Lightroom (LR5) as well as a bit of a mish mash of other stuff, like Nik etc. All’s good with this, however I feel it’s...

After nearly 40 yrs with photography, a question has occurred to me...

Yes, true. But, again using the music analogy, there are many recordings of the same piece of music out there, whether it’s a Beethoven symphony or a cover version of “I did it my way” and each has to be judged on its merits as being a different interpretation of essentially the same thing. The...

After nearly 40 yrs with photography, a question has occurred to me...

Isn't it the case though, that, when you become totally familiar and comfortable with the technical aspects of whatever kit you're using and with any post processing you may want to use, then the technical stuff becomes second nature and allows the artistic aspects to come more to the fore of...

Client images on Facebook - opinions?

Well ... apologies for being :"as vague as a vague thing" but to clarify ...... my OP was really seeking to ask, not about legality, but about timing and whether there is a right and wrong way to go about using client images on FB and other social media. Clearly, this is a matter of the correct...

Client images on Facebook - opinions?

Well ... in the case of the friend with the baby, I do have an idea of what was in the contract, as she showed it to me. And it says that the photographer does retain the right to post images on social media (fair enough), but it does not stipulate at what point in the process that might happen...

Client images on Facebook - opinions?

I agree that's the decent (if not contractual) thing to do, but in both of these cases, the photographer cited the fact that the images are their copyright, so they can do with them what they wish .... which, I suppose, is correct. I think the friend with the baby was a bit miffed because she...

Client images on Facebook - opinions?

I’m interested in opinions about the rights and wrongs of photographers posting images on Facebook which they have taken for paying clients, as opposed to people just posting shots they’ve taken for their own fun/interest. For example, my friend recently gave birth to her first child and...

The Worst Interior Design Trends of the Past 50 Years

Definitely a few things missing off the list .... those stone fireplaces with little "niches" in the sides, artificial beams on ceilings in modern properties, pine wall or ceiling cladding and corner baths would be on my list.

    TP 52 week challenge

Great thanks. I've read the instructions, so might dig out an old shot for this week to get myself going and set up, then try for a new one every week going forward.
