Large Format photography group - From "zero to hero!"

I actually find that when I am shooting still life, or indoor floral images, that I can manage without a dark cloth. However that's probably because of the way that I choose to light the subject: a) Set up a dark background b) Position the subject as far away as possible from the background, to...

A few shots from Tanfield Railway, taken in October with an Olympus OM10 and 50mm lens. The film was Agfa Precisa CT100 (aka Provia), developed in the Tetenal E6 kit.

I've just rediscovered this 2013 image taken at the secret Toblerone Quarry. Raw slabs of toblerone are waiting to be covered in chocolate, wrapped, and dispatched to sweetie shops. I took a quick snap with Velvia 50 in a Mamiya RZ67 when the guards weren't looking.

Any favourite film shot(s) from 2018 to share?

It's difficult to separate out enjoyment of the finished image, from my own memories of taking the photographs. In some cases these are favourites because they were the product of some kind of adversity (eg weather, a long walk in, or troublesome equipment), but of course this means nothing to...

Thanks Chris. The Precisa images were taken on the first roll through an Olympus OM10 I bought in a local camera shop (!) for £29. The roll had been on 30 shots for a few weeks so I fitted in a brief trip to Alnmouth to finish the roll whilst the family were shopping. The inbuilt metering proved...

Two shots taken on slide film this week. The first is medium format Velvia 50 and the second is 35mm Agfa Precisa CT100, aka Fuji Provia 100F. Both developed in the Tetenal E6 kit. Untitled by Kevin Allan, on Flickr Knotted by Kevin Allan, on Flickr

    Merry Christmas one and all.

@Asha, that's a seriously generous offer which illustrates what a fab community this is. However the temporary absence of LF kit will give me a chance to re-acquaint myself with my RZ67 kit which has been neglected since I got the Intrepid. Also I've been given a roll of the new Ektachrome...

    Merry Christmas one and all.

Both the base and the rear standard are damaged, so there's not much that could be kept. Looking at options for a new camera now.

    Merry Christmas one and all.

I am sure tomorrow will be better than yesterday ... yesterday I fell down a muddy bank with my Intrepid 4x5 in a backpack and, as welll as twisting my knee, broke the Intrepid. It was inside a cushioned laptop case inside the backpack, but I guess there's not much hope for plywood when the...

Adox CHS100 II film available again in 5x4

Just as well that I have 99 sheets of FP4+ left so there's a good chance I find a cheaper source before that runs out !

Beginner Where to start with film

That's an interesting and varied haul you have there. Here's my two-pennorth on how to approach them. There are two Minolta SLRs which look as if they are both autofocus models, probably from the 1980s. If they work properly then these will give you a user experience which is most likely to be...

    Colour processing - C41 - chemicals

I have a couple of blog posts about my experiences with the Fuji Hunt kit, and in particular the number of rolls that can be developed with a kit. The latest post is here https://kevinthephotographer.wordpress.com/2018/07/04/explaining-the-fuji-hunt-c41-instructions/ and it includes a link to...

I know this is a bit nerdy but the bike luggage confirms to me the probable date of the late 70s as I had similar items on my Dawes Fox in those days.

I know, it would have been cheaper to shoot in mono, but the sheet of Provia cost about £3.50 and I devved it msyelf so it cost less than 50p

    Suggested lenses for Italy trip?

For many years 28mm and 50mm (or their equivalents in medium and large format) have accounted for 90-95% of the photos I have taken, which are mainly landscapes and architecture. As the others have said, a longer lens might be useful on occasion, and bearing in mind that 35mm kit isn't that...

    Film photography apps?

I do this by editing the name so that one reads, eg "Ilford FP4+ in HC110 in Jobo" and has a time of 7m40s" and the other reads "Ilford FP4+ in HC110" with a time of 9m

    Shooting film at night

I wouldn't choose to shoot a moving subject at night with film hand-held but if the subject is static and you have a tripod then there's no issue. 1 35mm Velvia 50 at 4am 2. Superia 400 maybe, can't quite remember Which reminds me I have a copy of Andrew Sanderson's book on night...

    Film photography apps?

That is the same app I'm using. Is the "visual notebook feature" not the same thing as taking a shot with the app ?

    Film photography apps?

No it was £2.99. There is a similar app that costs around £25 but I can't remember what it's called.

    Film photography apps?

Thanks for the info; I will have a look at Reciprocity Timer and Exposure Assistant. Bellows extension is something I usually forget about, but having said that I'm rarely focussing close (which would extend the bellows more) when out in the the field doing landscape work. I do have TPE but I...

Wales Best time to catch some snow on the Snowdonia tops

I'm planning to take a week's photography holiday in Snowdonia and thinking March or April. I don't like the summer much and don't want to wait until Autumn. I want to include some snow on the tops, and possibly frozen streams, but don't want there to be so much snow that I need crampons when...
