    70 - 200 2.8 - advice needed

Thanks - is that the mark 1? I think we're currently on Mark 3, which by all accounts isn't that much of a step up from the 2? Got to say that the VC on my current Tamron is spectacularly good - but very often redundant as I don't need it. Just helps me to frame shots most of the time.

    70 - 200 2.8 - advice needed

Really kind of you - much appreciated. Thinking maybe of taking a plunge on an early L2.8. Renting first would be a wise choice but I'm probably looking at around ten percent of purchase price to do so . sadly don't know anyone locally who has one to try. I guess these things hold value so I...

    70 - 200 2.8 - advice needed

Thank you again. I guess the wildlife is an extra. Mainly garden birds, livestock on country walks, stuff on holiday. I am not by any means a serious birder or wildlife spotter. I have heard that the Canon L 400m prime is an outstanding and affordable option for those who are. Yes. The 7D...

    70 - 200 2.8 - advice needed

Thank you. Yes I have thought about the F4 very seriously. It remains an option, but I guess two things are in my mind 1) I am not used to lenses (code for I can't afford them) that are tack sharp wide open. Would this really be sharp at F4 all the way through the range? 2) I woud like the...

    70 - 200 2.8 - advice needed

Wow - that's really detailed advice. Indeed - the extra weight will be an issue. Reach-wise, one of the reasons I am looking for a 2.8 is so I can teleconvert it and still get a reasonable light performance from it. Does anyone have experience of a 1.4 converter on a Canon 70 - 200 - especially...

    70 - 200 2.8 - advice needed

Hello, I own a Canon 7D and am likely to stick with the Canon system in the future. I have an interest in dog photography and am thinking of doing this on a commercial basis moving forward. I also like to shoot wildlife, events and general landscape / holiday stuff. My go to lens for action is...

    Lens Repair (Nottingham area)

Yeah - I did collect in person from him. Seemed a nice guy - certainly not the sort to knowingly punt a faulty lens on Ebay. It's currently with Ebay to resolve. I've made some enquires for repairs and have had quotes for around £150. Until then I have an expensive paperweight. I don;t want to...

    Lens Repair (Nottingham area)

I won't just trying to prepare myself for what I could be facing. If I was the seller I'd claim that I broke it too... but I really didn't!

    Lens Repair (Nottingham area)

Thanks all. I have spoken with Hlehmann and they reckon it could be IS motor, Iris and or flexcircuit. Quoting £169 to fix... subject to inspection. I'll wait and see what Ebay say re the dispute. I will be seriously cheesed off if I have to fork out for repairs. May as well have just bought a...

    Lens Repair (Nottingham area)

Hello, I've a serious problem with my new Canon 17 - 55 2.8 I bought off Ebay. Details below if anyone has any advice. In dispute with the seller (he's suggesting I have broken it after two days very light use; I'm suggesting he sold a faulty lens) but could well end up footing a repair bill -...

    Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 IS or....?

Just bought one second hand. Great IQ but the IS unit has just packed up!!! By the look of things it's a common problem. Now in dispute with seller about a return. I want one (I really do) but I've had my fingers burned here and I am disappointed in Canon for putting somethign out that has a...

Canon 17 55 2.8 IS major lens wobble! Help!

He seems a decent guy (I met him) so I don't think that's the case. Not mentioned in description. He did say it had sat in a cupboard (boxed) for a long time since he went full frame. I'd like to have a rough idea what's wrong before contacting him.

Canon 17 55 2.8 IS major lens wobble! Help!

Just bought a used 17 55 2.8 from EBay. Taken fewer than 50 shots with it. Lovely image quality but I've got a big problem which seems to have got a lot worse very quickly. I notice a slight wobble in the viewfinder with the IS engaged and wasn't convinced the IS was doing a great deal. This...

    Alternative to Canon 17 - 40 L Lens...

I've set aside a few quid to upgrade my gear and have recently taken deliver of a used 7D, which I am very happy with. I'e budgeted a total of £800 for a new body and lens, so (after the 7D) I have £430 to play with.. maybe a little more... I've always fancied having an L lens (who doesn't want...

How to repair peeling rubber grip?

Hello, I am about to sell my faithful Canon 600d but need to attend to it's peeling rubber rubber issues first. The whole lot around the HDMI input is currently loose and flapping about. I have tried double sided tape but had no luck. I'm thinking of modelling cement (for plastic models) but...

    Upgrading from Canon EOS 600d

Cheers @Fuzzdog. That was really helpful. Does a much better job of explaining focussing options than the manual. I set up some preferred options (AF point expansion, AI servo (fast tracking) on the C3 dial and had a first try at some action shots on my morning dog walk. I was blown away by the...

    Upgrading from Canon EOS 600d

    Upgrading from Canon EOS 600d

What are your thoughts on this? Is the IS desirable / necessary? I have it on my current Tamrom SP USM 70 - 300 and it's great for single shots but actually seems a hindrance for any moving objects. Also, I'd like the option of a longer focal length but can;t really justify the added expense...

    Upgrading from Canon EOS 600d

UPDATE: I've gone with @Fuzzdog and bought a used Canon 7D. Arrived today. It's in good nick and only has 11k shutter actuations on it (i've just checked to be sure!) so seems good value at £370. I've set aside £1000 to upgrade my gear this year so that leaves plenty left over for some upgraded...

Export settings for Flickr and Facebook

I'm hoping somebody can clear this up for me. What are the best Lightroom export settings for presenting images on Flickr and Facebook. I've heard about 72dpi but I'm no sure what difference this makes tbh. Thanks.

Thanks for that. Really helpful and food for thought. A 7D and an upgraded lens may be a better use for my budget.

    Upgrading from Canon EOS 600d

Nice one. I've never had to do it with my 600. Seems weird to spend a lot of money on a camera and have to spend time adjusting it so it works properly. Perhaps this is just a feature of higher end bodies.

    Upgrading from Canon EOS 600d

This one is perhaps a better example. Same lens, same 1000 fps and and 320 ISO. I too several of these and was really disappointed. Not one was anywhere near acceptably sharp. Paired with my Tamron.. my 600d performs much better. Why / how can this be the case?

    Upgrading from Canon EOS 600d

Just looking back at some test shots I took with the 80d and my Tamron 70 - 300 SP USM. This is at 1000 fps f.8 iso 320. Admittedly it's always going to be a tough shot to get but I've nailed these plenty of times on the 600d.
