    Some tips pls

Yeah I did go out and check the cloud cover. Actually I was loading up the car and looked up and thought wtf! Then went in, checked the forecast again and gah! Cloud cover apparently arriving 4 hours too soon. I have some other dates in the planner though. It’s good to have to work for this. :)

    Some tips pls

I didn't! We were all set to leave (wife was coming to watch the meteors). and about 30 mins before we left at midnight the Met Office updated their cloud cover forecast shifting the cover from starting at 4am, to around midnight. So we were thwarted by good ol' UK cloud cover....I suspect a...

    Some tips pls

Going to have another bash at doing a meteor shower in the early hours of 4th Jan (Quadrantid). Looks like clear skies from midnight to 3am and then it will become misty/foggy (according to Met office). The moon is around 5% and so that should help and I'm in an area of low light. Could do with...

This app rocks! I've downloaded it yesterday and spent a good part of today going through the guide and watching tut videos. Absolutely amazing app! Thanks for the recommendation.

    Beginner Geminids meteor shower

Yeah I just downloaded it and had a quick flick through. Nicely detailed and I think I grasped most of the concepts. I'll spend some time later going through the documentation and watching the tuts. Great app!

    Beginner Geminids meteor shower

*head hits desk* I'm going to claim that it's because it was 2am and was oo'ing and arr'ing over the meteors that I cannot believe I didn't even consider it! I could kick myself really hard as I do a lot of sport photography and ISO and I are well acquainted friends :D I don't know to be...

    Beginner Geminids meteor shower

Not easy this stuff is it!? So last evening, for the first time ever, I decided to try and get out for the peak time of a meteor shower (reported to be around 2am) and see if I could capture any of it using my Nikon D850 and 24-120mm f/4. I'm not new to photography but I seriously got to a...

Flash and I have an understanding. We hate each other! It’s consequently my biggest weakness.

Sony 128GB G XQD card - not seeing the r/w speeds I would expect

Hmm...yes. 'Max rate' would imply it's peak performance, as opposed to sustained performance when transferring a large data payload (5GB in my test) I would assume the R/W of the destination, when compliant with USB 3.1, would be 650MB/s (as per the spec)? Anyway, it seems like there are too...

Sony 128GB G XQD card - not seeing the r/w speeds I would expect

I looked up the USB 3 bus speed and it's 650MB/s, so I think we're good there. Fake cards! Yikes. I know that's a problem with SDXCs but wasn't aware that the Sony XQD's were being faked. I wonder how one can tell?

Sony 128GB G XQD card - not seeing the r/w speeds I would expect

I connected my XQD reader (https://bit.ly/2Q3nAPb) to my i7 iMac's USB 3 port (at the rear), inserted the Sony G XQD card and then ran Xbench and Blackmagic Disk Speed Test. I see a read speed of around 300 MB/s and a write speed (the important one!) of only 150 MB/s. While I don't expect to get...

    Nikon D850 - Owners Thread

Some fabulous images in this thread!! Got mine yesterday (from KCSGear) but I've been working ever since it arrived . Having said that I'll be shooting women's field hockey on Saturday with it so I'll get a good feel for it then. Quite a step up from my D300 which I still absolutely...

    Do these work?

Thanks for the feedback. For my money I was edging towards preferring #1 and was curious to see other opinions. I do like two but I feel there's something not quite 'finished' about it. Haven't put my finger on what that is though.

    Brownie No.2 camera

Thanks everyone. Actually it's a clone of a Brownie and is in fact a Rex Camera. I've found info that I needed and for the most part it's virtually the same as the Brownie. Thanks again!!!

    Brownie No.2 camera

A visit to my mother's house recently resulted in her casually mentioning that she had a 'Box Brownie' camera which used to belong to my grandmother when she was 14. Today I actually got my hands on it. Upon looking at the camera the first thing I noticed is that it has a half-used film in it...

Picked up a Bronica - some advice on a lightmeter

Definitely an option but if a £69 meter can do the job 'well' then I'd happily plump for that and carry less when going out and about with the Bronica.

Picked up a Bronica - some advice on a lightmeter

I've just picked up a Bronica ETR-SI camera. I've never used a medium format camera and I've never shot film. Clearly I am going to need a lightmeter and so I was wondering if this would suffice: http://www.sekonic.com/products/Sekonic%20L-208%20TWINMATE.asp I don't particularly want to spend...
