Car buyers should have 'long, hard think' about diesel

Turns out performing OTA updates the way Tesla do is only really legal in the good old USA and Canada. Perform a software update to the brake system OTA anywhere else in the world will render the whole car in breach of it's 'type approval'...

Truly, I wish you would just post stuff you actually know and have researched (including links to sources). I've mentioned it before but posting your opinions as if they are facts does you no favors as when/if you post some important (to the the discussion) information it is at danger of being...

Yep, I bet they cut the bit off at the end when Button said it was a penalty with the current regs though.

It's not a case of updates OTA or no updates at all though. You really do try to twist things to your view don't you. You work in firmware development so by no means be deemed to be lacking intelligence but you do come to some strange conclusions.

Not a surprise at all really. They were required to produce new evidence that was not available at the time of competition. Karun's sky pad analysis was one of the two bits of new evidence, the other being a face cam of Vet to show where he was looking. One was an opinion piece, the other had...

I too work in IT, it still amazes me the lack of security of some major financial and defence institutions. I can, but won't, name a few that still use Windows xp!, will let visiting IT professionals wander around unescorted and not question when someone they know does not work directly for...

And, no corporation in the world has ever had a successful hacking attack happen. Oh wait, they have, several, Yahoo, Ebay, OPM (US federal dept), Uber, you get the idea, its a long and ever growing list. What makes you think Tesla's severs are not in any way vulnerable to attack in the future...

@wuyanxu you have side stepped the point, again. You are criticising JLR for not doing OTA updates to the braking software. I am suggesting that not allowing OTA updates to a safety critical aspect of the vehicle is a good thing. Do you really want the risk that somebody could, in theory, gain...

JLR have OTA updates, I think you knew that, you are correct that JLR can only OTA update certain parts of the software in their vehicles (all models not just the EV ones). Personal choice I guess but didn't a few groups of hackers take control remotely of Tesla cars via in car browser...

Formula 1 (and other categories) 2019

Yep. I watched the analysis earlier. It's clear from the footage from Lewis's car that at the point Seb turned across the track he was not correcting an oversteer as all the pundits and he kept insisting. The back end was not stepping out at that point. The penalty was fair and some may argue...

Formula 1 (and other categories) 2019

"They're stealing the race from us", nope, Seb was pressured into an error and they applied the rule as Seb went from the returning to the track on the left, going straight across to the right and pushing Lewis off the track. No amount of crying "where else could I go" is going to change that...

No they're not. Nissan and Renault are no where new 8 years for the powertrain, they are the only ones I have checked, which in itself is more than you checked obviously. https://www.nissan.co.uk/ownership/nissan-car-warranties.html...

I'd agree the overall cost per mile is a better way of seeing the true cost but the point was that the main EV supporter/contributor to this thread basically posts whatever he thinks is right or supports his point without actually checking and then seems not to keen when someone points out he...

Unfortunately you have stated so much unsubstantiated 'facts' on this subject I tend not to take your figures as being correct, didn't really read all the ones above once you started mentioning cost per mile etc. I do know that one thing Tesla can't do as well as the BMW is connect with the...

Sorry, I thought we were comparing clean EV with dirty diesel, or not quite as dirty as it's made out diesel :) Even with your choice/quoted prices that's still £9k difference for the 'equivalent' EV. That's a lot of fuel, a good few years worth depending on the mileage.

Diesel does not catch fire, petrol on the other hand does, spectacularly :) Total cost of ownership - don't think you're quite correct about that comparison unless you are factoring a long period of ownership or lot of miles per year. What's the average length of time for car ownership? Genuine...

You keep making this statement about Ford being late to the EV party, which is factually incorrect. I'm no fan of Ford myself, not on my top 5 list of cars I'd purchase, but, they did as @nilagin keeps stating invest in EV long before Tesla where even thought of or Musk born for that matter...

Just wondering why they are having trouble finding the people involved, I'm assuming it counts as a criminal act (maybe it's not, I'm not sure). There are clear images of the car reg, the police would have the address within a minute surely.
