I tend to use it in this order: Lightroom>Photoshop>Nik or Alien skin>Photoshop>Lightroom tweaks>export from LR.
My computer is very laggy at the moment so I've stopped using all plugins. I don't get on with them as stand alones because I have presets that I like to use e.g. contrast.
Quick thanks to everyone who gave me harsh critique - for my next session I kept the 23mm locked away and refused to use Alien Skin ... and I got back to my signature style!
Incidentally, I'm thinking of trading my fuji 35mm or 23mm for something squeaky sharp like the 56mm (fav lens that I...
Thanks for your observations @gazmorton2000 You know I'm a fan of your work.
@Phrasemaker #1 was with the 23mm, as were all the brown backdrops. I was careful to keep the non-model's face in the center of the lens, but you can see the distortion towards the arms at the bottom of the frame...
Thanks everyone for their comments.
@Kodiak Qc I always respect your opinion. Thanks
Everyone's comments about the colour processing is spot on, I'd reinstalled Alien Skin and was having a play.
I also appreciate your observations about skin colour - always the holy grail.
@wambam @sk66 You...
Just wanted to share some recent portraits as I've not been active for a while. Happy for CC on my photography (but not the model).
I've used a different skin processing approach here - I don't know if it looks too perfect?
This is actually my first set with the soft box, sharing because I'm enjoying the process. Plus I have another session next weekend, so might pick up some new tips.
No texture added as I'm now following Peter Coulson's approach. Quite a close crop because G. wore a large watch and I hadn't...
Thanks everyone for your support.
Pose - I did go back and look at how Andy Park presented these poses and most of his models have their arm drapped on the outside of the knee. I'm sure I'll remember to improve this next time, thanks to your suggestions.
Grain - I'm still working out a way to...
Something like 3X4 meters. With a 2-seater sofa along the wall (camera left)and TV in the corner (camera right). My bum is on the radiator.
In the last image she has her foot on the sofa and I needed to crop out the arm rest.
I've tried to create some distance from the wall, but the light...
I bought a second hand softbox on here last month and things are finally falling into place for me. It's 140m double diffused Octobox and even in my small room, I'm managing to use it successfully with the grid in place.
I'll post more as I go on from another session.
I'm trying to...
Forgot to add - tested out modelling lamp too and I think I could use it on its own.
As for model lamp settings. I pressed a lot of buttons without checking the manual, so thanks for the additional details. Something I need to check properly. Mandy
Right - productive morning as I've solved a few things that were bugging me.
1. The ND sheet works fine taped to the reflector - I can't discern any changes in coverage.
2. The ND sheet does lower the modelling light - but I also learnt that a high power output = high modelling light. So, with...
Thanks for your thoughts - I'll have a play and test out what happens with different approaches tomorrow and feedback.
It's an Elinchrom D light 4 (?). Experience has told me I needed a lower wattage *sigh*. A ND filter on my lens has worked well, as has bouncing the light off a wall. I'll try...
I've done some research, but wondered what the general consensus is..
I expected to put the ND sheet on my reflector within the softbox. BUT the sheet is larger than I thought and I don't want to cut it. Also, don't I want light to spread wide and bounce?
I've also seen videos where the...
